A popular Rhode Island TV meteorologist, Kelly Bates, has been let go from her position for a second time.

On Thursday, Sept. 11, Bates posted a Facebook video announcing that the station she works for, ABC6, has been bought out.

She revealed that ABC6 was bought by the station she previously worked at. “And that parent company has decided I’m a redundancy and needed to go,” she said in the video.

“So, no tears this time. I know what to expect with this company,” Bates said. “But if anyone’s looking for an effective communicator, a person who can make great homemade bracelets, and someone who’s dedicated and loyal and hardworking, please feel free to reach out to me, because I could use a job.”

She also penned a vulnerable caption, writing, “Good grief! It happened again!! A number of us ABC6 folks are now looking for work. If a resume crosses your desk from someone at ABC6, do yourself a favor and hire them.”

“They are the finest humans I have worked with,” she continued. “They are resourceful beyond measure and dedicated to excellence. They are magic makers who can make so much happen with so little. It was an honor to work with them. It was a gift and a blessing to be part of the team.”

Throughout her career, Bates has received Emmy nominations. She was inducted into the Rhode Island Monthly Hall of Fame in July 2022 and has been voted best female meteorologist of Rhode Island by the readers of Rhode Island Monthly multiple times.

Bates did not reveal the name of where she previously worked. However, she left her NBC10 job in September 2021 after working for the station for 17 years. (NBC10 is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group.) At the time, she said she was “unable to continue” with the conditions being offered, per The Boston Globe.

“Leaving this job was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” she said at the time. “I loved my job at NBC 10 and it makes me profoundly sad to leave it after 17 years.”

She then joined ABC6 in June 2022.
