Michael Jordan Makes Rare Appearance at Bill Belichick’s UNC Coaching Debut

Michael Jordan is one proud alumnus!

The NBA legend is among the star-studded list of attendees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s game against Texas Christian University on Monday, Sept. 1. The game marks Bill Belichick’s UNC coaching debut.

Jordan was spotted by cameras attending the game with NFL legend Lawrence Taylor and former UNC basketball coach Roy Williams.

Other celebrities on site included soccer legend Mia Hamm and country music star Eric Church, The Fayetteville Observer reported. According to the outlet, country music artist Chase Rice performed a pregame concert.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone, former NFL star Julius Peppers, and Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, were also at the game. Hudson was spotted sitting with former NFL star Randy Moss.

Jordan’s presence at the game is no surprise, as the former basketball star has often regarded his time playing with the North Carolina Tar Heels with great fondness.

When asked in a 2005 interview with Cigar Aficionado to pick between his time playing for the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Chicago Bulls, Jordan picked UNC.

“I would say it was for the Tar Heels. No one knew me until then. That’s when the notoriety and everything began with Michael Jordan. By the time I got to Chicago, I was drafted three, so everybody knew I was at least decent,” he said.

Belichick, who holds the NFL record for most Super Bowl wins — six with the New England Patriots as head coach and two more with the New York Giants as defensive coordinator — was announced as the head coach of UNC football in December 2024.

“I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill. I grew up around college football with my Dad and treasured those times. I have always wanted to coach in college and now I look forward to building the football program in Chapel Hill,” he said in a press statement.

His career in college football follows 24 seasons as the head coach of the Patriots.
