Miley Cyrus Claims Dad Billy Ray Once Smoked Pot on ‘Hannah Montana’ Set — And Everyone Blamed Her

Miley Cyrus is still fielding questions about Hannah Montana more than a decade after its end — and she has some hilarious memories to share.

During the Thursday, June 19, episode of her mom Tish Cyrus and sister Brandi Cyrus’ “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast, the Grammy winner, 32, opened up about a moment that never ceases to amuse her.

“What’s a core memory from the Hannah Montana days that still makes you laugh?” Tish, 58, asked her daughter.

“Dad smoking pot and everyone blaming me for it,” Miley replied with no hesitation, referring to her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus. “It’s hilarious. … He wasn’t sharing ’cause Tish wasn’t toking yet.”

According to Tish, she received a call about the incident, but at the time, she didn’t believe her then-husband, now 63, would do such a thing. (A rep for Billy Ray had no comment.)

“They were calling me, saying B-Ray was smoking pot, and I was saying, ‘Absolutely not, he would never do that,’” Tish recalled. “It’s Mitchel Musso!” (Musso, now 33, played Hannah’s BFF Oliver on the Disney Channel original series.)

“Well, it was Mitchel,” Miley quipped. “It was Mitchel Musso! It was both.”

Musso, however, claimed Miley’s account wasn’t quite accurate.

“Well, that’s not how I remember it,” he told E! News in a statement on Thursday. “However, I’ve got plenty of stories from those years that might be worth having a conversation about. If we’re revisiting Hannah Montana history — just say the word.”

He added, “All love to Miley and the fam … even when the rewrites get this creative.”

Miley was happy to clear up some long-standing rumors about her family on Thursday, explaining that the recent Instagram unfollow drama between her and Tish was all a big misunderstanding.

“If you were in the family or not in the family, it was weird timing,” Miley said on the podcast. “I went to see B-Ray, and you did mysteriously unfollow me — and then you got some backlash and suddenly knew how to press that follow button.”

Billy Ray and Tish, who split in 2022, also share Braison, 30, and Noah, 25. The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer, who is also the father of son Christopher from a past relationship, adopted Tish’s eldest children — Brandi, 38, and Trace, 36 — from a previous relationship.

While speaking on Thursday’s podcast episode, Miley further acknowledged that the unfollowing saga occurred because of “a bug” on the Instagram app itself.

“The truth is boring,” Miley quipped. “There’s a bug in Meta, it naturally unfollows the person that you follow with the most engagement. … I was either, like, ‘Mom lost her glasses and can’t see,’ which is what I thought happened. Then, there was actually a bug in Meta.”

Tish, for her part, recalled that the backlash was “insane,” as Miley confirmed that the mother-daughter duo are now fully on the same page.
