Nancy Guthrie’s ransom account remains empty as second deadline looms
An alleged ransom account set up for Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother Nancy’s return is reportedly still empty as the second deadline looms.
A bitcoin account was set up to accept funds in exchange for Nancy, but the balance stands at $0 with no transactions recorded, according to TMZ.
The outlet was one of several that received ransom letters from the alleged kidnappers demanding a “transfer” of millions in bitcoin.
Tucson’s ABC affiliate KGUN9 reported the potential captors demanded the Guthrie family pay $6 million in bitcoin by the deadline of Monday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. MT.
Over the weekend, the “Today” host alongside her brother Camron and sister Annie offered to pay their mom’s ransom in an emotional plea to her alleged captors.
“We received your message and we understand,” she said while sitting hand in hand with her siblings.
“We beg you now to return our mother to us, so that we can celebrate with her,” she added. “This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”
After the first deadline passed, Camron took to social media with a new plea to return their mother.
“I’m speaking for the Guthrie family. Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you. We haven’t heard anything directly. We need you to reach out, and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward.”
Nancy was last seen on Jan. 31 by her son-in-law Tommaso Cioni, who dropped the 84-year-old off after dinner with him and his wife, Annie.
