Nick Cannon Clarifies Daughter Monroe’s Viral Comment About Having ‘1 Brother’
Nick Cannon is clearing the air over daughter Monroe’s viral comments about having “one brother.”
“It’s so funny because the world thought that it was about a conversation that was something that it wasn’t,” Cannon, 45, told host Shannon Sharpe during a recent appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast. “It was really about 14-year-olds talking.”
Cannon, who shares twins Monroe and Moroccan, now 15, with ex-wife Mariah Carey, was referring to his daughter’s remarks about her siblings in November 2025.
“Clearing something up guys, I only have ONE brother who is @moroccan.cannon,” Monroe wrote via her Instagram Story. “I do have other half siblings from my dad but they are all many many years younger than me!”
Monroe and Moroccan are the only children Cannon and Carey share. However, Cannon is also father to 10 additional kids, including Golden, 9, Powerful Queen, 5, and Rise Messiah, 3, with Brittany Bell, twins Zion and Zillion, 4, and Beautiful Zeppelin, 3, with Abby De La Rosa, Legendary, 3, with Bre Tiesi, Onyx, 3, with LaNisha Cole, and Halo, 3, with Alyssa Scott. Cannon and Scott also shared son Zen, who died in 2021 at 5 months following a battle with brain cancer.
Cannon explained to Sharpe that Monroe was saying that she only has one sibling close to her in age.
“So my daughter wanted to clear it up, and be like, ‘I only have one brother,’ like literally in her age group,” he said.
Cannon shared that Monroe was “upset” that the internet mistook her message.
“The world jumped in on some teenage gossip conversation and tried to turn it into something else,” he said. “And then that upset my daughter. So she was like, ‘I didn’t mean that. I said my dad has other kids.’”
While comforting his daughter, the Masked Singer host gave her some advice about posting on social media.
“I was like, ‘Monroe, you don’t have to explain yourself to anybody,’” he recalled. “‘But let this be a lesson that you got to be very careful what you say on social media. People will take something very small and blow it up into something that you don’t have control over anymore.’”
Earlier this month, Cannon confessed he’s “protective” of Monroe as she gets to the age where she wants to start dating.
“I am more protective of my daughter because there [are] things out there that I have to protect my daughter from,” he said while appearing on the “TMZ Podcast” in May. “Like, as we know, there are a certain type of individuals that you want to keep your daughter away from.”
Cannon acknowledged the “double standard” he has enacted since he has allowed Moroccan to date.
“First of all, it’s absolutely a double standard,” he shared. “And I know I get in trouble a lot ‘cause I say things with my chest. But there is a difference when parenting a son and then when parenting a daughter.”
