Morgan is going through it in Nobody Wants This season 2.

In Justine Lupe’s words, her character “is in crisis” in the second installment of the hit Netflix series, out now, which stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody as lovebirds Joanne and Noah, who struggle to reconcile their differing religions as they fall in love.

“I think the whole season is Morgan not feeling very secure within herself and very comfortable on her own,” Lupe, 36, says of her character, the younger sister of Bell’s Joanne. “And feeling like she’s just kind of hanging on to flag poles along the way, being in the middle of a storm, just being like, ‘Help me. Help me. Help me.'”

Though Morgan puts on a good “mask” to pretend that “everything’s fine, and I’m in love,” as Lupe says, that’s not the case this season, despite her relationship with her therapist-turned-boyfriend, Dr. Andy (Arian Moayed).

“I think part of the reason this show resonates is, we’re watching fully adult, evolved, late 30s, early 40s people fall in love, and she’s right there,” Lupe continues of Morgan’s arc this season, noting the younger sister “wants so badly to not be left behind by Joanne” as her love story continues unfolding with Noah.

“She’s been desperate to not be left behind and find her own fairytale,” Lupe adds of Morgan.

Ultimately, though, the podcaster calls things off with Dr. Andy after a whirlwind romance — at their engagement party no less. “This is the moment where she’s saying, ‘I’m okay. I’m going to be okay by myself, and I have to do this the right way,'” Lupe says of the breakup scene. “That moment is a really important one for her.”

“She’s in crisis, and I think that that last moment is her finally finding her own agency and saying, ‘Hey, listen, I’ve got to do this the right way, and I see that now.’ And it’s a scary thing to do that the right way,” she adds of Morgan’s decision.

As for whether Morgan’s new single status could lead to something romantic with Sasha (Timothy Simons), who is also newly single after he and wife Esther (Jackie Tohn) split in the season 2 finale, Lupe says, “I really just want to see their dynamic play out in any way ever.”

“Tim is my favorite person to act with. He’s so fun. He’s a dear friend of mine — he’s become one of my best friends — and I just love being in scenes with him,” she says.

“I am very hands-off about what the writers do and what they choose for these two characters, and I’m just excited to see any iteration.”

She adds, “I think it also could just be really fun to watch them be weird, oddball buddies roaming around town trying to be each other’s wingman or whatever. There’s so much potential. I would be happy with anything.”
