OJ Simpson’s estate agrees to pay victim Ron Goldman’s family $58M
OJ Simpson’s estate has finally agreed to pay a multi-million dollar settlement to Fred Goldman.
Fred is the father of Ron Goldman, who was murdered alongside Nicole Brown Simpson in June 1994 outside Nicole’s Brentwood home. O.J. was put on trial for their murders.
The former football player was acquitted of the killings following a lengthy, highly publicized trial that lasted more than a year.
The Goldman and Brown families both filed wrongful death suits against OJ in 1995 and were awarded more than $33 million.
However, the Simpson estate paid only a small portion of the ordered amount.
Simpson died in April 2024, at the age of 76.
Three months later, Fred filed a claim for $57,997,858.12, “plus judgment interest on the approved amount,” per paperwork obtained by People, which was filed by the estate’s executor, Malcolm LaVergne, in the Clark County District Court in Nevada earlier this month.
LaVergne told TMZ that the estate plans to pay off as much as possible, alleging that some items that could have been auctioned off have been stolen, and he is working with lawyers to regain possession of them.
Fred filed the claim for more than $117 million, but Malcolm disputed the computation of interest and, according to court documents, will “continue to work” with Fred on a “more accurate” interest calculation.
The Goldman family’s attorney noted that the “positive acknowledgment of debt “does not constitute payment.
“This acceptance allows the administration of the claim to move forward in probate. We will continue to monitor the probate process as it progresses.”
The Goldman family may have to wait before they see any cash.
The Simpson estate will first settle payment to the IRS to meet federal tax obligations. It owes approximately $636,945 to the state of California.
The agreement marks a reversal from LaVergne’s initial stance, in which he averred that he would never pay the Goldman family.
He subsequently changed course and acknowledged their claim positively.
