Olivia Wilde addresses rumored feud with Florence Pugh
Olivia Wilde is setting the record straight about the behind-the-scenes drama that surrounded her 2022 film, “Don’t Worry Darling.”
Ahead of the premiere of the thriller, rumors swirled that there was tension on set among the film’s stars — Wilde, 42, Pugh, 30, and Harry Styles 32.
However, Wilde claimed the speculation, including reports that she and Pugh had screaming matches during production, was false.
“I have never had a screaming match on my set. I was never not available on set,” the actress revealed to The Cut on Wednesday.
Wilde also reflected on the intense scrutiny surrounding her romance with Styles, whom she met while making the film. The pair dated for nearly two years before splitting in 2022.
Calling the relationship “loving and wonderful and joyful,” Wilde admitted she was advised not to publicly push back against the rumors at the time.
“I was told, ‘Don’t say a f–ing word. Just go out there and smile,’” she recalled. “I resent that, but it taught me it’s not the way I want to handle things.”
“I wanted to be like, ‘None of this is true,’” she added, noting that Hollywood “robbed” her of her “naïveté for sure.”
The “Tron: Legacy” star added that she hates being misunderstood.
While filming the 2011 comedy “Butter,” co-star Jennifer Garner had some some eye-opening remarks for Wilde.
“She said it’s like you get cast in a soap opera by the public,” the mom of two elaborated. “And they assign you an obvious archetype: the damsel in distress, the good girl, the pretty girl.”
While Wilde was originally “an object of desire” she felt that “Don’t Worry Darling” changed her label.
“I became the full-on villain,” she said. “Like [Disney’s] Cruella [de Vil].”
Page Six reached out to Pugh’s rep for comment.
While on “Call Her Daddy” earlier this month, Wilde addressed the public backlash she received from dating Styles.
“It really did upset people. It was crazy,” she told host Alex Cooper. “I don’t know how much I understand it yet.”
“People were f–king pissed,” she confessed.
Page Six broke the news in July 2022 that Pugh was not thrilled over Wilde and Styles’ relationship.
“I can tell you for a fact that Flo seeing Olivia and Harry all over each other on set did not go down well as Olivia was still with Jason when she first hooked up with Harry,” a source said at the time, referring to Wilde’s ex Jason Sudeikis.
The former couple was together from 2011 until 2020 and share kids Otis, 12, and Daisy, 9.
Then, in September 2022, an insider who allegedly spent “significant time” on the movie set claimed to Vulture that a “blowout argument” took place between Wilde and Pugh in January 2021.
Pugh reportedly was frustrated with her co-star’s “frequent, unexplained absences.”
“Olivia and Harry would just disappear,” the insider claimed.
They revealed that the tension boiled over and a “screaming match” allegedly ensued.
At the time, sources also claimed that Styles and Wilde’s relationship was the reason the latter split from the “Ted Lasso” star.
One source told Page Six that Wilde’s alleged affair with Styles left Sudeikis distraught.
“Jason and the kids visited Olivia on set at the beginning a few times, so I think this all made people feel a little uncomfortable,” the insider claimed at the time.
Despite rumors of behind-the-scenes issues, Wilde gushed over Pugh on her Instagram, writing, “Watching this woman work was such a f–king thrill! Cannot wait to show you more. @florencepugh@dontworrydarling.”
The “Thunderbolts*” star never replied.
