An incident involving the Outer Banks executive producer Jonas Pate allegedly occurred during filming this week.
On Wednesday, Oct. 22, TMZ reported that multiple sources claimed Jonas, who co-created the Netflix hit with twin brother Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, got physical with a female production assistant. Several of the series’ stars reportedly intervened, including leads Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline.
A source tells PEOPLE that Jonas “was screaming at the female production assistant and grabbed her by her shoulders and shook her. He didn’t hurt her or try to hurt her. He just crossed a line. Putting your hands on someone is never, ever okay.”
Neither Netflix nor Jonas have responded to multiple requests from PEOPLE for comment. Reps for Stokes and Cline did not immediately respond.
TMZ reported that “tensions were high” on set when Jonas allegedly grabbed the P.A. and shook her. Production for the fifth and final season is taking place in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
According to the outlet, Stokes stepped in to separate the pair and Cline attempted to de-escalate the situation.
Multiple production sources allegedly told TMZ that this was not “unusual behavior” for Jonas, with one source stating, “It’s about time that it’s made public.”
Netflix confirmed that Outer Banks had begun filming season 5 on June 20, when the streaming service released two group photos of the cast — Stokes, who plays John B.; Cline, who plays Sarah Cameron; Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara Carrera; Jonathan Daviss, who plays Pope Heyward; Drew Starkey, who plays Rafe Cameron; and Carlacia Grant, who plays Cleo.
The Instagram post showed the group laughing and posing while shooting on a marsh outside Charleston.
“summer time and obx 5 is back in production 🤙,” the caption read.
While no official premiere date has been revealed, Netflix has confirmed that it will air sometime in 2026.
“We are over the moon to be setting out on one last trip with the Pogues,” Josh, Jonas Pate and Burke told Tudum in June 2025. “Being back on set with our cast for this final round is nothing short of bittersweet and surreal. We can’t wait to show everyone what we have in store this season — it’s going to be a wild ride.”
The co-creators, who said in a previous letter to fans that they “think it will be our best [season] yet,” also shared that the series’ final scene has been solidified for years.
“We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be if we would be lucky enough to get it that far,” Josh said in February 2023.
