Princess Anne and Sir Timothy Laurence’s Relationship Timeline

Princess Anne — the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip — married Sir Timothy Laurence in December 1992.
When the pair initially met in 1986, Anne was still married to her first husband, Mark Phillips, whom she wed in 1973. (She and Phillips welcomed son Peter in 1977 and daughter Zara Tindall in 1981.)
Anne and Mark announced their intention to separate before she filed for divorce in April 1992. Less than a year later, Anne married Timothy in a small ceremony at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral castle in Scotland in December 1992.
Timothy, a retired Royal Navy Officer, received no royal title following the nuptials. However, he was made a personal aide-de-camp to the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2008. After Elizabeth died at the age of 96 in September 2022, Anne’s husband attended various events honoring the late British monarch. He has continued to stand by his wife’s side in the years that followed.
