Quinnen Williams’ Wife Maranda ‘Got to Learn’ About Him from Watching Jets Series: ‘He Has a Potty Mouth’ (Exclusive)

NEED TO KNOW
- Maranda Williams tells PEOPLE she learned about her husband’s “potty mouth” while watching Prime Video’s docuseries about the New York Jets
- Her husband, defensive end Quinnen Williams, told her he’s a “different guy on the field” than at home
- Maranda admits she was hesitant at first about participating in the docuseries
Maranda Williams learned about a new side of her husband’s personality while watching him on Prime Video’s new series The Home Team: New York Jets.
Maranda, 24, stars on the docuseries alongside her husband, New York Jets defensive end Quinnen Williams. The Eighty8 label designer and founder tells PEOPLE the show allowed her to learn about how her husband acts around his teammates.
“I got to learn some things about my husband that I didn’t know existed on the football side,” says Maranda. “I didn’t know he has such a potty mouth! That was new to me.”
After watching scenes of her husband using swear words with his teammates, Maranda jokes, “I was like, ‘This is how we talk?’ And then the throwing the helmet part, I was like, ‘This is what you do? Wow,’ and he’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m a different guy on the field than I am at home.’ ”
Maranda says she teased her husband by responding, “Let’s keep it that way.”
When Maranda, an Alabama native who grew up taking “Alabama football seriously,” was initially approached to participate in Prime Video’s docuseries following the families of the New York Jets, she was “definitely” hesitant about agreeing, she shares.
“I just couldn’t see myself even being interested in that,” she admits, calling the experience “a rollercoaster” of emotions.
“It was like, ‘Cool. Oh, my gosh, no way,’ but then it’s like, ‘Whoa, is this reality? Let’s pause.’ Then once I got to the documentary side, it was like, ‘Okay, this is a great fit for me and my family,’ ” says Maranda, who’s thrilled to have the high-quality footage to look back on with her family.
“It was something new and different. I didn’t really know how to feel going into it, but as we started going through it, it started feeling a bit more normal,” she shares. “It feels good, especially seeing the finished product now. That’s the most exciting part. We have these memories hardcore, they’re nice, they’re professional, so I love that.”
Being a designer and running her own brand keeps Maranda busy, especially as an NFL wife, but she’s grateful that Quinnen is supportive of her goals. He even helps her package orders in an episode of the show.
“I will say on my end, it’s very tough for me to try to have my own identity and do something for me career-wise, because we are always just hopping up and moving back and forth,” she tells PEOPLE.
She adds, “There’s so much going on, and their role right now takes up a majority of the day, a majority of the time. I do think women are, in this particular field, are on the back burner, and we push our husbands to go be great.”
But as her business takes off, and Quinnen enters his seventh season in the NFL, they’re preparing for changes in the future.
“I think we are starting more to kind of [think about] that topic, because hitting year seven is like most guys don’t make it past three,” she says of his eventual retirement. “You’ll see on the show how he’s like, ‘I hope this business blow up so I can be Jeff Bezos’ wife,'” she jokes of her husband’s dreams for Eighty8.
She adds, “I hope that’s true too, because I would love to put him in a situation to be a stay-at-home dad and take the kids to and from school, while he’s like, ‘Yeah, my wife’s out there, like being a go-getter,’ so he can kind of get the experience that we got to experience.”
