Rumer Willis moves from Idaho to Nashville after Derek Richard Thomas split
Rumer Willis has relocated from Idaho to Nashville, Tennessee, just two months after being awarded primary physical custody of her daughter.
Willis, who shares 3-year-old Louetta with ex Derek Richard Thomas, announced the move on Instagram Wednesday, calling it a “leap of faith.”
In the video, moving employees could be seen helping “The House Bunny” actress, 37, pack and carry “two decades of [her] life” to her new home.
“New chapter, officially delivered,” Willis wrote in the caption.
In June, Willis and Thomas, 40, agreed to undergo a custody evaluation while sharing joint legal custody of their daughter. The ruling came shortly after court documents revealed that Willis had accused her ex of “incessant domestic violence.”
Willis’ mother, Demi Moore, who shares Rumer with ex-husband Bruce Willis, supported her daughter’s claims, describing Thomas’ behavior toward Willis as “aggressive.”
The “Substance” actress, 63, recounted her previous interactions with Thomas, claiming that he “appear[ed] to want to dictate and control Rumer’s environment to [suit] his needs.”
Thomas denied the allegations, stating that he had never behaved “aggressively or inappropriately,” and accused Willis of exposing their daughter to “adult sexual humor” content without his consent.
He also alleged that Wills had tried to remain in Idaho permanently after moving there with her daughter from Los Angeles, California, during the January 2025 wildfires.
Willis took to Instagram to announce that she was leaving the City of Angels after 14 years.
“I’ve been ready for a new adventure and a new place for years, but for reasons only the universe knows, this house wasn’t ready to be done with me,” she wrote in the caption.
“Now, it feels like the house is finally ready to let me go. So, with the deepest love and gratitude, Lou and I say goodbye to Casablanca and LA and set off for a new adventure.”
The June filing also granted Thomas visitation every other weekend beginning June 20. The musician’s visits were initially to be supervised by one of Willis’ nannies before transitioning to unsupervised overnight visits.
A judge also ordered the pair to participate in co-parenting counseling and communicate through a co-parenting application.
In August 2024, Willis confirmed on social media that she and Thomas had broken up. The former couple began dating in 2022 and announced that December that they were expecting their first child together.
Their daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis, was born April 18, 2023.
