Sarah Jessica Parker is open to preserving Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion legacy with a style exhibition celebrating her most iconic looks.

When asked about giving fans a public opportunity to peek into Carrie’s enviable closet, the Sex and the City star, 60, revealed during a recent Q&A, hosted by Threads, that an exhibition would definitely be possible, as the show has retained much of her character’s wardrobe.

“I would say we have 78% of everything that I’ve ever worn on the show,” she said, noting, “The absences are from designers who rightfully wanted it back or loaned. Those are typically the reasons that they’re not in my archive.”

Parker continued: “So we have as much as possible and we, in many cases, have soup to nuts. We have from [the head] to the feet.”

The star explained that having the archive was “really handy” as the show’s wardrobe team could delve into it and bring back certain nostalgic pieces for Carrie to rewear.

“We’re pulling and planting and rewearing stuff. Because that, too, we feel like is a way of acknowledging the audience,” she said. “We always try to place things that we know will be meaningful to the audience and sometimes touch it, sometimes just have it in the background.”

Parker acknowledged that people have inquired about a potential fashion exhibit and highlighted, “We’ve done little, smaller condensed versions of that.”

As for something on a larger scale, she said, “I do think if someone has an interest in a time that seems appropriate, yeah, I think it would be [great].”

However, she has one stipulation for the exhibition.

“Maybe it’s a bigger conversation that’s included with something else from cinema too, that’s about costumes and stories and women on film and what was and wasn’t allowed then,” Parker said, explaining, “Because that I think is quite a big part of the conversation too — the way she dresses. How would you have done that person 40 years ago? What would she have been allowed?”

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Parker also admitted to raiding Carrie’s closet from time to time during her many years starring in Sex and the City, followed by reboot And Just Like That…

She said that she was recently invited to a birthday party in England and needed an outfit.

“We were already nearby, so I pulled from the archive,” she recalled. “It’s one of the few occasions I’ve ever pulled from the archive for personal use. It’s not every day.”

In an emotional tribute to Carrie, shared on Instagram following the news that AJLT… would be ending after its third season wrapped on Aug. 14, Parker touched on the character’s famous love of fashion.

“She broke hearts, heels, habits. She loved, lost, won,” she wrote, in part. “Changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City.”

“Devoted herself to hats, books, shoes, friends and the promise of a new day in her beloved city and the people she treasured most,” Parker continued. “She has worn shame, pride, honor, optimism and literally countless dresses, skirts, tutus.”

In an Aug. 29 post, she wrote of the show, “The greatest thing about goodbyes is realizing you were part of something worth remembering.” For SATC fashion fans, here’s hoping Carrie’s scene-stealing wardrobe will be one of those somethings worth remembering via an exhibition.

All seasons of And Just Like That… and Sex and the City are available to stream on HBO Max.
