Sarah Michelle Gellar tells Page Six Radio why she hopes canceled ‘Buffy’ reboot pilot doesn’t see light of day

Sarah Michelle Gellar hopes the canceled “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot pilot doesn’t see the light of day because it wasn’t “finished” and “everyone would have an opinion.”

The “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come” star opened up about the canceled project and how it took her by surprise during a chat with Page Six Radio co-hosts Evan Real and Danny Murphy Wednesday.

“I hope it doesn’t. I actually hope it doesn’t,” Gellar, 48, said of the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale” pilot getting leaked.

“Because then everyone’s going to have an opinion on this and that,” she continued. “And pilots are not finished. It wasn’t done.”

Gellar went on to explain that she and Chloé Zhao, who was signed on as director until the revival was scrapped last week, made a pilot for the “Buffy” reboot “on purpose” because there were “some new characters” and they wanted to “see how it goes.”

“There are things you learn from it. And there are things you fix,” she explained. “Usually, a pilot doesn’t air in its entirety, ever. So you use that information as a learning tool.”

The “Scooby-Doo” star then revealed that the original “Buffy” pilot, which went on to run for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, had “nothing to do with the show” it ultimately turned into.

“It was a different Willow,” she said, referring to Alyson Hannigan’s role as Willow Rosenberg. “It was a very different show. But those are learning tools, and that’s what a pilot is.”

As for a version of the pilot script that reportedly got leaked, Gellar insisted that it “isn’t correct” and asked “Buffy” fans not to watch the pilot should it somehow get released.

“That stuff is really unfortunate,” Gellar told Page Six Radio. “And I ask fans, if you see scripts, if you see [the pilot] leaked, don’t watch it. Because you’re not getting our visions and all of that.”

However, there are two things longtime “Buffy” fans can do to make the canceled reboot right: stream the original show and go see her newest movie, “Ready or Not 2.”

“That’s what you can do right now,” Gellar concluded. “That’s all we can do right now.”

The “I Know What You Did Last Summer” scream queen revealed that the continuation of her hit ’90s series wouldn’t be happening after all in a disappointing Instagram message on March 14.

“So I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me,” Gellar began before announcing that Hulu “decided not to move forward” with the highly anticipated “Buffy” revival.

“I promise that if the apocalypse actually comes, you can still beep me,” she ended her message after thanking Zhao.

Gellar then revealed that one Hulu exec in particular was to blame for “Buffy: New Sunnydale” not moving forward at the streamer.

“We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn’t for him,” she told People in an interview published Monday.

“That’s very hard when you’re taking a property that is as beloved as ‘Buffy,’ not just to the world, but to me and Chloé,” Gellar added. “So that tells you the uphill battle that we had been fighting since day one, when your executive is literally proud to tell you that he didn’t watch it.”
