Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos won’t talk to Meghan Markle without lawyer: report
Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos allegedly will not speak to Meghan Markle on the phone without a lawyer present.
In a Variety story published Tuesday, three sources claimed that Sarandos is “fed up” with Markle and Prince Harry.
Sarandos, according to two insiders, recently said he wouldn’t sit in for a call with Markle, 44, unless a lawyer is present on the line.
The sources noted it was unclear if Sarandos, 61, was serious or joking.
But a Netflix spokesperson told Variety that the claims are “absolutely inaccurate.”
Markle’s attorney, Michael J. Kump, echoed that statement in a letter to the outlet, saying, “This is blatantly false. In fact, Meghan texts and speaks with Mr. Sarandos regularly, and has been to his home, sans lawyers.”
Furthermore, Netflix insiders insisted that Sarandos and his wife, Nicole Avant, frequently socialize with the Sussexes, who are their neighbors in Montecito, Calif.
A source also told Page Six that Markle and Harry, 41, have a great working relationship with Sarandos.
The Variety story also shed light on the Sussexes’ relationship with Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria, who has allegedly “grown weary” of the streamer’s pact with the couple.
However, Bajaria herself praised Markle and Harry.
“Archewell has been a thoughtful and collaborative partner, and we’ve really enjoyed working with Harry and Meghan,” she told Variety.
“They’re deeply engaged in the storytelling process and bring a unique, global perspective that aligns with the kinds of impactful projects our members respond to,” Bajaria added.
Markle and Harry originally negotiated a $100 million deal with Netflix in 2020.
But Page Six reported last August that the couple signed a new deal with the streamer that was worth less than the previous one.
To make matters worse, Netflix cut ties with Markle’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, earlier this month, after her two-season series “With Love, Meghan” was canned due to falling ratings.
The “Suits” alum had previously teamed up with Netflix to produce goods for her lifestyle range, with “With Love, Meghan” being used to promote her As Ever products.
The Sussexes still have a deal with Netflix via their production company, Archewell Productions.
A source told Page Six that the deal is in a great place, and multiple scripted and unscripted projects are in development.
