Sheinelle Jones shares painful truth of life after husband Uche Ojeh’s death

Sheinelle Jones opened up about her grief after the shocking death of her husband, Uche Ojeh.

“I don’t even think I understood fully what it would feel like to not have him,” she told People of her husband, who died from an aggressive form of brain cancer in May.

“It’s the life after where you really feel the loss.”

Despite her return to TV, the “Today” show host urged her viewers not to be fooled by her on-screen demeanor.

“People see me on TV and they think ‘Oh, she’s better.’ It’s like, ‘Oh, no, no. I’m not better.’ Every day, it’s like swimming through mud,” she confessed.

“I’ve had to really do the work. Empathy is my superpower now, and I recognize that I hold two things: I hold my grief, and I also hold this joy,” Jones added.

“I said it months ago, and I’ll say it now: I am fighting for my joy.”

Jones also noted that she always believed her husband would live with the power of prayer.

“Not once did I think I was going to lose him,” she told People. “When you’re a woman of faith, you realize that you’re praying for an outcome and then if the outcome doesn’t come, then what? And that’s when I’ve really had to dig deep and realize that maybe I just don’t fully understand.

“I know God loves me and I know God loves [Uche] and I know God loves my children and our families, so like, why is this happening? I still don’t know if I have the answer, but I have peace that passes all understanding,” she added.

“That’s a Bible verse. It doesn’t mean that it’s easier. It doesn’t mean that my grief is not excruciating.”

Jones — who shared son Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche Jr., both 13, with Ojeh — said she has to remind her three children that the time they spent with their father was more “than some people get in a lifetime.”

Last May, her colleagues announced that the news anchor’s husband had sadly passed away from “an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma.”

Multiple sources told Page Six that Ojeh put up a brave fight against the illness.

As Ojeh battled his cancer, Jones took an extended leave of absence from her then-gig as one of the main co-anchors for the “Today” show and “Today 3rd Hour.”

Despite Jones’ personal issues, she has made some positive strides in her career.

Last month, she was announced as the replacement for Hoda Kotb, joining Jenna Bush Hager as the co-host and “forever friend” on “Today with Jenna & Friends.”
