Sherri Shepherd Calls Out ‘Unnamed Celebrity’ Who ‘Forcefully’ Accused Her of Throwing Shade at Othello Opening Night

Sherri Shepherd will not stand for shade.

On the Monday, March 24 episode of Sherri, the talk show host reflected on a less-than-pleasant encounter she’d had the night before at the New York City premiere of Othello on Broadway, where another star called her out for something she said she hadn’t done at all.

Calling her an “unnamed celebrity,” Shepherd, 57, told the audience, “I get along with everybody. I really do. I get along with everybody. So I’m standing there, and I was talking to Khadeen and Devale Ellis, and Devale Ellis is on Sisters. So this unnamed celebrity actress, who shall remain nameless, I’m standing there talking, somebody grabbed my arm, and they forcefully turned me around.”

Shepherd said she was “in a good mood” so she turned around ready to engage. “I go, ‘Hi! What’s going on?’ Cause I know her. And she says to me, she goes, ‘You’ve been shading me a lot.’ That’s what she said to me.”

She quickly shut down the accusation. “I said to her, I said, ‘No, I haven’t.’ Because I was really confused. And she goes, ‘Yes, you have.’ And then she just walked off.”

“Now, let me tell you something. First of all, I know who I shade because I don’t shade many people. It might be one person I shade. And I never have shaded this unnamed celebrity,” she continued. “And so she came up to me in front of everybody going, ‘You shaded me.’ And then she walks off. So I was mad. I was really mad, and I said, ‘You know what? You don’t freaking get to do that to me.'”

Shepherd then set up shop in the bathroom for “15 minutes” during the show’s intermission, she said, waiting for the unnamed guest to come in so she could talk to her about it, but it doesn’t seem like the opportunity arose, because the actress then addressed the culprit. directly

“I would say to unnamed celebrity, because you think I shaded you — which means you watch my show — I don’t know who you think I am. I think you get me confused with somebody, one of the bloggers or the influencers, because I know I didn’t shade you.”

Shepherd took things one step further then as she revealed she’s actually been a source of support for the star recently. “Matter of fact, when something scandalous came up about you, I was on your side when it happened. So I would say to unnamed celebrity, because we’ve known each other [for a] long time, come sit on my couch so we can talk about it. And you know who you are.”

While Shepherd did not specify who she was talking about, there was a big group of stars in attendance at Sunday’s premiere of the show, which stars Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Jennifer Lopez, Martha Stewart, Deborah Cox, Ariana DeBose, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Spike Lee and Paul Tazewell were among the A-listers in the audience, as well as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Angela Bassett, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Alfre Woodard and Rosie Perez.

President Joe Biden and first lady Dr. Jill Biden were also in attendance, as well as Cynthia Nixon, Blair Underwood, Joe Morton, Kenan Thompson, Peter Dinklage, Keegan-Michael Key, Jennifer Nettles and Kandi Burruss.
