‘Sixteen Candles’ actress turned billionaire Atlanta Hawks owner makes rare appearance
Jami Gertz, the “Sixteen Candles” actress turned billionaire NBA owner, made a rare public appearance.
The 60-year-old and her husband, Tony Ressler, attended a gala at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art honoring its new David Geffen Galleries last Thursday.
Gertz wore a white dress for the occasion under a cream Libertine coat embellished with sparkling florals.
She completed her look with black socks and silver heels, as well as a studded Khaite bag.
Her husband, for his part, sported a tuxedo.
The couple donated $50 million to the institution, per the New York Times, and the new galleries’ south wing has been named the Ressler Family Wing.
Ressler, 66, has served as the LACMA board’s co-chair since 2015.
That same year, the financier and his wife spent an estimated $720 million buying the Atlanta Hawks, which Gertz told the Hollywood Reporter in October 2018 was “so much fun.”
She recalled “gushing and screaming” over the purchase — and clarified it “seemed like a natural moment for me to take a break from acting” when they relocated to Georgia.
The “Twister” star confessed, “It’s hard to even say it out loud because I love what I do. It’s given me so many beautiful things in my life, taught me so many things about myself and the world around me.”
Additionally, Gertz noted, “You reach an age, and you slow down, and the jobs are a little hard to come by.”
She went on to clarify to the outlet that she “made more money — way more money” when she met her partner in 1986.
“Everyone thinks I married a rich guy,” Gertz said. “I paid for our first house. I paid for our first vacation. I married him because I fell in love with him.”
The child actor wed Ressler in June 1989.
The pair have welcomed three kids together: sons Oliver, Nick and Theo.
