Tom Hanks’ son Chet condemns bigots using his ‘white boy summer’ phrase to spread hate: It’s ‘deplorable’

Tom Hanks’ son Chet Hanks condemned bigots who have “twisted” the meaning of his phrase “white boy summer” to promote hate.
“White boy summer was created to be fun, playful, and a celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race,” he posted on Instagram Wednesday.
“Anything else that it has been twisted into to support any kind of hate or bigotry against any group of people is deplorable and I condemn it.”
Chet concluded, “I hope that we all can spread love to each other and treat each other with kindness and dignity.”
The 33-year-old spoke out after the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism reported that “white boy summer” has been “co-opted by far-right extremists to promote hate and bigotry.“
“The far right is adept at bringing their hateful ideologies into the mainstream, especially through the use of social media, and the already-viral White Boy Summer has proved to be the perfect segue for them to spread their bigotry to a wider audience,” the report reads.
In May, Chet declared on Instagram that summer 2024 was a “white boy summer” by writing, “I have consulted with the heavens, felt a westward breeze, and walked outside of a strip club and saw my shadow… this will be a #WBS #iHaveSpoken ⛪️.”
Chet released his song “White Boy Summer” in 2021 after being inspired by Megan Thee Stallion’s song “Hot Girl Summer.”
“I met a bad little shawty at a party dance / Gettin’ to the bag like it was her only chance / Rich b–h, known to run up them bands / Said f–k it, then she went and made an OnlyFans, uh Hot boy, white boy summer,” he sings on the track.
In the music video, Chet bounced his face off a woman’s butt and wore a “stop hate” shirt.
The A-lister’s son previously defended the song after receiving extensive backlash on social media.
“I just got this feeling man, that this summer is, it’s about to be a white boy summer. Take it how you want,” he wrote on social media in March 2021.
“I’m not talking about Trump, NASCAR type white,” he added. “I’m talking about, you know, me, [R&B artist] Jon B, [rapper] Jack Harlow type white boy summer. Let me know if you guys can vibe with that and get ready, ‘cuz I am.”
