Tom Hanks watches son Chet perform at Stagecoach 2026
Tom Hanks is his son Chet’s biggest fan.
The “Cast Away” actor watched Chet perform with his band, Something Out West, at Stagecoach Musical Festival 2026 in Indio, California on Saturday.
In a social media video taken by festivalgoer Keren Ashri, Tom could be seen smiling and singing along to the band’s song “You Better Run” inside the Toyota. Music Den.
Tom, 69, wore a casual outfit including a tan jacket, blue jeans and a hat.
Ashri told People that it was about ten minutes into the show when she realized she was next to the Oscar-winning actor.
“I noticed him and freaked out honestly,” she said. “I couldn’t believe he was standing right there next to me! He was enjoying watching his son.”
Ashri shared that when she finally “gathered the courage” to go up to Tom and tell him she was a fan, he “was very kind and gracious” back to her.
She also said, “A few more members in the crowd noticed him after the show was over, and he was very gracious to take a few pictures with the fans.”
The music video for Chet’s band’s song “You Better Run,” released last year, pays homage to Tom’s beloved 1994 film, “Forrest Gump.”
There’s a scene where Chet, 35, sits on a bench with a box of chocolates and Tom joins him, eyeing his son’s familiar outfit.
In addition, the band performs on a shrimp fishing boat named Jenny — the name of Robin Wright’s character in the film.
Chet’s parents are Tom and Rita Wilson. The couple also share son Truman, 30, while Tom is also dad to son Colin, 48, and daughter E.A., 43, with his ex Samantha Lewes.
Chet formed Something Out West with his friend Drew Arthur.
According to the pair’s website, the country music group started in California when the duo “became roommates at a pivotal time — both embarking on a journey to sobriety that sparked a deep friendship and creative partnership.”
Chet is also an actor, appearing in Kate Hudson’s Netflix comedy series
“Running Point.”
In February 2025, Chet discussed his music and acting careers during an interview with Esquire magazine.
“Ultimately, I consider myself an artist, and acting and music are just two different mediums for being able to express myself,” he said.
“I’ve been working on this music for a long time,” Chet added, “and so I would like to be touring and finally letting the world hear it.”
