Tom Hardy’s ‘MobLand’ fate revealed after on-set clash

Looks like Tom Hardy’s “MobLand” character won’t be swimming with the fishes after all.

The actor has reportedly settled his beef with producers and is “back in the fold” for a potential third season of the hit Paramount+ series, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The outlet reported Wednesday that Hardy — who plays the leading role of Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the London-based Harrigan crime family — recently met with producers in London to mend fences following a series of reported on-set clashes while filming Season 2 of the crime series.

Writer/executive producer Jez Butterworth, executive producer David Glasser and executive producer/ director Guy Ritchie were all reportedly involved in the conversation.

Season 2, which wrapped in May, is slated to premiere later this year. Paramount+ has not formally announced a third season, but according to THR, the show is aiming to start production in the fall.

Reports of Hardy clashing with producers and getting “booted off” the set of “MobLand” first surfaced back in May.

The Oscar-nominated actor was reportedly “late to set” numerous times, and “expressed his displeasure” that a series “initially built around him was increasingly becoming an ensemble showcase for Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and other co-stars,” a report from PuckNews claimed at the time.

Per the Hollywood Reporter, Hardy “refused to leave his trailer” at times and “gave script notes” to Butterworth and “MobLand” creator Ronan Barrett for Season 2.

“He kept the cast waiting, [which is] a power play,” a source told the outlet. “Keeping [co-stars] Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and others waiting is career suicide, I would wager.”

Insiders then told Page Six Hollywood in June that Hardy was declining to return for Season 3 following the troubled production of Season 2, and that Colin Farrell and Idris Elba had been approached as possible replacements. 

Sources noted that while filming for Season 1 ran smoothly with showrunner Bennett, friction allegedly began when Butterworth took over for Season 2. The “Edge of Tomorrow” writer, we’re told, was stretched thin across numerous projects, including Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics. 

Hardy reportedly requested to see scripts to build his character, per sources, but he sometimes was left to learn lines the day of production. This led to the instances in which he stayed in his trailer, which allegedly impacted the budget and caused producers to panic. 

“You have an A-plus writer who’s got a lot of power and who has a methodology of, ‘I don’t know where this is going,’ and then an A-plus actor who is used to knowing the entire arc of a character in a story,” a “MobLand” source told Page Six Hollywood at the time.

However, “it was all very passive-aggressive and British,” the source added. “It wasn’t even a feud.”

Amid rumors of on-set tension, Hardy’s co-star Mirren (who portrays Maeve Harrigan in the series) took to Instagram on May 28 to show her support.

“Love you now and always,” she wrote atop a photo of Hardy.

Mirren also defended Hardy in an interview with Variety in June, telling the outlet she’d “absolutely” work with him again “in a f–king heartbeat.”

“I love Tom. I think he’s the most amazing actor,” she gushed, noting that the “Peaky Blinders” alum just has a “different process” than she does when it comes to acting. “I’ve learnt over the years that some people get to things faster. As long as what’s on the screen is fantastic, I’m totally chilled with however someone gets there.”

Mirren, 80, then went on to call Hardy, 48, “a very special person” who is “absolutely remarkable,” reiterating that her support was “genuine” and heartfelt.

“We will go forward, absolutely,” she promised, “and it will be even better.”

Season 1 of “MobLand” shockingly ended with — spoiler alert! — Hardy’s character being stabbed in the chest with a knife, leaving his fate unclear.

During a June 2025 interview with The Post, Butterworth confirmed that the character was not dead and that Hardy was not off the show.

“We’re not gonna [kill him]. We love Harry. We love Tom,” he said at the time, noting that Harry’s relationship with the Harrigan crime family was the “beating heart” of the story.

As for the show’s future, Butterworth told The Post, “I’d like this to run for as long as it fascinates and delights and stimulates an audience. If it’s doing that, then long may it continue.”
