- Kelce has “no fakeness” to him, said Villani, adding that what fans see on New Heights is genuinely “him”
Travis Kelce’s trainer shared an adorable story about the NFL star and his fiancée Taylor Swift.
Tony Villani, who returned to training Kelce this offseason after a two-year break, spoke to USA Today ahead of the Chiefs’ first game of the season on Friday, Sept. 5, revealing the sweet way Kelce and Swift, both 35, made his daughter’s day.
Villani told the outlet about a time his 8-year-old daughter, Carol-Myles, walked in during a video call with Kelce, her favorite player, during the offseason. The young girl reportedly asked the Chiefs star, “Where’s your girlfriend?” and even asked a “couple questions about marriage” before Kelce gave her the surprise of a lifetime.
After Kelce looked off-camera for a second, Swift reportedly appeared on the screen and chatted with Carol-Myles. “Her and Travis just hammed it up with my daughter for like two minutes,” Villani told the outlet.
“And my daughter just couldn’t speak because she was in awe,” he added.
Villani, who described Kelce as “the most humble, fun-loving, honest, genuine and hardworking guy there is” in the interview, said, “Neither of them needed to do that,” of Swift and Kelce taking time to speak with his daughter. “I think they’re just like that,” he said, “I really do, and it’s very genuine.”
Kelce’s trainer also said fans are getting the real version of the Chiefs star when they watch his podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce. “What you see on his podcast, that’s him. There is no fakeness to it. That’s him,” he said.
Villani started working with Kelce again this summer in Florida. Villani had noticed one of the issues the tight end was having last season — which had been his least impressive in stats — was that Kelce was “neglecting that ability to go from 17 to 20 miles an hour,” on the field.
“He just neglected it,” Villani told USA Today. “He may have gotten comfortable because he kept getting open. He had 93 and 97 catches, but he didn’t have that threat after the catch. He has the moves, but not the juice.”
Together, they worked on getting his top-end speed up to a whopping 20 miles per hour ahead of this new season.
Kelce and the Chiefs will kick off their NFL season on Sept. 5 against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paolo, Brazil.
