‘Tyrant’ Sarah Hyland was ‘rude to everyone’ on movie set, co-star Jeff Dye claims
Sarah Hyland was a “tyrant” on the set of her 2019 movie, “The Wedding Year,” according to one of her co-stars.
“In the time that I had to be on set, Sarah Hyland was the lead,” Jeff Dye said in Thursday’s episode of “The George Janko Show” as he acknowledged he was only in the rom-com for about “30 seconds.”
The comedian, who memorably dated Kristin Cavallari from 2020 to 2021, claimed the “Modern Family” alum was “rude to everyone,” calling her a “pretty woman who chain-smokes and is terrible.”
Dye, 42, went so far as to allege that Hyland, 34, complained to director Robert Luketic about the film’s extras eating food from the craft service table at one point.
“She was annoyed that some extras wanted some f–king free granola bars … like it was in her kitchen or something,” he said.
The stand-up star claimed the actress “hated” him and even told him, “You’re what is wrong with people.”
He also speculated that she did not like him simply because he is a man and she is “not used to masculine energy of any sort.”
Dye then told another story involving Hyland in which she allegedly tried to show cast and crew members the trailer for the 2019 live-action “Dumbo” movie on her phone.
“They’re all in this hierarchy of Hollywood where it’s like, she’s No. 1 on the call sheet, [so] we have to, like, pander to her. If she’s mean to us, just let her be mean to us, and if she’s sad, pretend like it’s OK that she’s sad,” he explained of the expectations on set.
The actor remembered the former “Love Island” host crying while watching the trailer and admitted he replied in shock at the time, “That looks gay.”
“I didn’t even mean it. I just wanted to ruin the moment,” he shared on the podcast. “I ruined her little showpiece.”
Fortunately, the tense moment occurred on Dye’s last day on set.
“She thinks she’s so important, and this is, like, the whole industry,” he doubled down.
When asked whether he was the one who rubbed Hyland the wrong way, the funnyman said she behaved the same way toward everyone.
He claimed to have “checked in with everybody” on set, and they agreed Hyland was “mean.”
Dye even joked that staffers bonded over their dislike for the “Geek Charming” star and that it brought them closer together.
“I think, actually, people found camaraderie in hating her,” he said. “Like, she was the island.”
Dye confessed that he is not worried about the backlash he could receive for exposing Hyland’s alleged ways.
“Don’t care at all,” he said, insisting he was “just being honest.”
While he didn’t get along with Hyland, Dye said Luketic “was a dream” to work with — as was his on-screen wife, Anna Camp.
“I would work with [Luketic] anytime ever again,” he said, adding, “Me and Anna Camp became good buddies after that. Like, she’s awesome.”
Page Six has reached out to Hyland’s rep for comment.
