Where Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie stand 22 years post-divorce

Billy Bob Thornton still has love for his fifth ex-wife, Angelina Jolie.

The “Monster’s Ball” actor recently revealed that he and the “Maleficent” actress have maintained a “close” friendship 22 years after they divorced.

“Angelina and I had a great time together,” he told Rolling Stone in a new interview published Monday. “That was one of the greatest times of my life. She and I are still very, very close friends.”

Thornton, 70, shared that he and Jolie, 50, had “a really civilized breakup” due to their varying lifestyles.

The “Landman” star admitted that the media frenzy surrounding their three-year marriage “was pretty weird.”

“When we met, I was the more famous one,” he explained. “And then when we got together, for some reason, the people and the media are very interested in celebrity couples, that seems to be a very popular thing.”

Thornton said he and the “Eternals” star “couldn’t go anywhere” and when they did, everything they said became “sound bites.” 

The one-time Oscar winner then recalled the headlines about him and Jolie wearing vials of each other’s blood.

“We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them,” Thornton explained.

“That’s a romantic little idea, and that’s all that was. But by the time it’s over, we’re vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood, and this kind of stuff,” he remembered.

The “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” actress and Thornton met while filming “Pushing Tin” in 1999, and they eloped in Las Vegas the very next year.

In 2002, Jolie and the “Bad Santa” actor adopted their son, Maddox, from Cambodia.

However, that same year, the couple filed for divorce and the “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” star was given full custody of Maddox, now 24.

Their divorce was finalized in May 2003.
