Which ‘Tell Me Lies’ Stars Are — And Aren’t — Returning for Season 3 After Shocking Cliffhanger?
Hulu’s hit series Tell Me Lies is returning after that shocking cliffhanger — but which stars are and aren’t reprising their roles?
Based on Carola Lovering‘s novel of the same name, Tell Me Lies follows the messy relationship between college students Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White). Their problematic on-and-off romance lasts eight years — and everyone around them is affected by Lucy and Stephen’s ups and downs.
The first season, which premiered in 2022, pulled quite a lot from Lovering’s book, but the ending flipped the script by extending the toxicity between Lucy and Stephen so the show could go on for more episodes.
Season 2 raised the stakes after Lucy and Stephen’s first breakup, showing the pair’s reconciliations in both the past and present timeline while in relationships with other people.
The drama escalated when Lucy and Stephen got back together in college, where he later found out that she had previously hooked up with his friend Evan (Branden Cook). He seemed to take the news well until Tell Me Lies jumped to the present day during Evan’s wedding to Lucy’s friend Bree (Cat Missal). No one could find Stephen as Cat received a voice message from Evan confessing to cheating on her with Lucy.
Season 3 is expected to pick up immediately after Cat finds out about Lucy’s betrayal. It also remains to be seen whether Lucy breaks things off with Stephen for good in the present timeline.

Grace Van Patten
During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly after filming wrapped up, Van Patten shared in September 2025, “I can’t say too much but fans are in for a crazy ride this season! I think it’s the messiest yet and it truly feels like the peak of all these characters’ worst decisions. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been working on.”
Jackson White
White’s Stephen is back in season 3 — and he is as self destructive as always.
Catherine Missal
When we last saw Bree, she found out a huge secret that is expected to reverberate throughout season 3.
“It’s a little juicy, isn’t it?” Missal told Us in October 2024. “I’m going to let people have their theories and we’ll kind of see how it plays out. It’s really exciting to not know and be surprised at what happens.”
Sonia Mena
Pippa’s return in the third season will include a focus on her romance with Diana.
Alicia Crowder
Speaking of Diana and Pippa, the duo have mixed thoughts on the longevity of the fictional couple.
“Man, I hope so. That would be cool. I think that they both deserve it,” Crowder exclusively told Us in October 2024. “They’ve both been through so much because of external factors, but also because of this group of people. I really hope so and it looks like they’re in a good place. Obviously no relationship is perfect and we have some issues that we’re working out.”
Mena, however, wasn’t sure based on the other Tell Me Lies couples, adding, “But nobody ever is happy on this show.”
Branden Cook
Evan can’t answer for the secret he kept from Bree if he isn’t in season 3.
Spencer House
The actor teased Wrigley’s arc after flashbacks in season 2 revealed he accidentally was at fault for his brother’s death.
“Now that we’ve done the spiral [with him], I would like to see some sort of path in a positive direction. We know how that ends,” House told Us in October 2024 in reference to the show’s present day timeline not allowing Wrigley a lot of growth. “He’s a little bit onto everything that’s going on. It’s up to the writers, but I would love to just do something different than another spiral. I love doing it, but I would like to see hope.”
He added: “Maybe in a 2015 storyline you would see if he gets better. But also we don’t spend a lot of time there, so I don’t know how they’re going to do that. I’ll do my job as always, and we’ll see how it goes.”
Tom Ellis
After originally signing on for one season, Ellis reprised his role as Oliver for season 3.
Costa D’Angelo
D’Angelo joined the show in season 3 as Alex, who is a psychology grad student and part-time drug dealer who has a complicated past with Bree.
Iris Apatow
Apatow has a recurring role in season 3 as Amanda, a bubbly but fragile college freshman keeping a big secret.
Thomas Doherty
Doherty’s Leo appeared to be on the show for an arc lasting one season. The actor, however, didn’t rule out a return, telling Us in December 2024, “Maybe Leo isn’t all that he seems. There is a lot to do with him.”
He continued: “I wasn’t actually too surprised about the fans’ reaction to my character. After season 1, Leo just slotted into that gap. It made sense. What did surprise me was all the outpouring of love. It’s really kind of overwhelming at times.”
