Whoopi Goldberg is feeling the Christmas spirit!
The View co-host and EGOT-winning actress shared that she puts a little extra effort into making Christmas special for children by penning replies to letters sent to Santa Claus, she revealed on The View’s companion podcast Behind the Table on Thursday, Nov. 13.
Goldberg said that her small good deed each holiday season tends to have a great impact.
“I just feel like everybody needs a little help, and if you can help somebody… it’s why I try to do Santa at the post office. I try to get letters and we try to answer kids’ letters to Santa,” Goldberg said.
“It’s things that we can do, and it doesn’t cost a lot,” she continued, “because you want to give people the ability to do something that brings up how they see themselves.”
Goldberg’s comments on her holiday tradition came on her 70th birthday which The View celebrated with the podcast episode and a special birthday episode that gave a platform to a selection of Goldberg’s favorite charities.
Charities highlighted on the show included One Simple Wish, which helps foster children; The Heifer Project International, which fights world hunger; and God’s Love We Deliver, which focuses on addressing hunger in communities impacted by HIV/AIDS, among others.
It’s crucial to Goldberg to amplify various charities and give whenever possible because simply because “a lot of people aren’t getting what they need,” she said on the podcast, noting that the cost of taxes, bills and basic necessities make it hard for some people to make ends meet.
“It’s not fair. People used to actually have savings,” Goldberg said. “And people can’t hold onto their savings, because every time you turn around, somebody’s hand is out.”
