Zachery Ty Bryan apologizes for most recent domestic violence incident
Zachery Ty Bryan called his latest domestic violence incident a “painful wake-up call” in an apology for his actions.
The “Home Improvement” alum, 44, told TMZ Thursday that he’s on a “journey toward personal growth” and taking accountability for his previous violent actions.
“Fame as a child actor left scars — being thrust into the spotlight at nine years old brought pressures I wasn’t equipped to handle — but that’s no justification for my choices as an adult,” Bryan told the outlet.
Bryan continued that he “deeply” regrets any pain or harm he’s caused, noting that “domestic violence in any form is unacceptable.”
“The truth is, I’ve struggled with the lasting effects of early fame, addiction, and poor decision-making, which have hurt people I care about and led to repeated legal issues, including DUIs and past domestic incidents,” he continued.
“This latest situation, involving a restraining order and serious accusations, has been a painful wake-up call.”
The actor also revealed how his multiple run-ins with the law have affected his role as a father, as he is a dad to seven children.
“Being labeled a ‘bad dad’ cuts deep because my children are my world, and I know I’ve fallen short.”
Bryan also shared that he has gone to rehab, and is committed to sobriety and therapy.
He is also in anger management programs and support groups to address his behavioral patterns.
On Wednesday, news broke of Bryan’s ex-girlfriend getting a five year restraining order against him.
The victim first contacted police when the actor allegedly punched her in the right temple of her head on July 3 after she playfully bit his nipple, per court documents obtained by TMZ.
The woman also claimed that in a separate verbal altercation, Bryan threatened to end her life and told her to, “Shut the f–k up or I’m gonna shut you up.”
The “Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” actor has had two prior arrests for domestic violence incidents.
He was arrested for choking his then-girlfriend in October 2020 and subsequently pleaded guilty to menacing and fourth-degree assault.
Bryan was arrested back in January after he allegedly “punched a woman multiple times and threatened to kill her.” Page Six can confirm that this case is still pending.
