Orlando Bloom Reacts to Joke He’s Dating a Politician After Ex Katy Perry Seen With Justin Trudeau

Orlando Bloom appears to have a good sense of humor after his ex-fiancée, Katy Perry, was spotted with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, fueling speculation the pair are dating.

The Onion, a satirical website, published a fictional article on Friday, August 1, that claimed Bloom, 48, is dating former German chancellor Angela Merkel on the heels of Perry, 40, and Trudeau’s own rumored association.

“Just weeks after announcing his split with fiancée Katy Perry, English actor Orlando Bloom was photographed Friday dining with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel,” an Instagram caption read. “‘Angela kept Orlando laughing all night — he couldn’t keep his eyes off her!’ said an insider source who spotted the pair sipping wine, slurping oysters and splitting a decadent piece of chocolate layer cake at a Michelin-starred restaurant.”

The Onion also published an AI-drawn image of Bloom sitting across from Merkel, 71, at a candlelit table.

Bloom responded in the comments section, writing, “👏👏👏.”

Weeks after Us Weekly broke the news in June that the Lord of the Rings actor and Perry called off their engagement after a decade together, the singer was spotted with Trudeau, 53.

Perry and Justin, who split from wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023, were spotted taking a walk in Montreal’s Mount Royal Park on Monday, July 28, in photos obtained by TMZ. Within hours, the duo was spotted for a second time, enjoying a meal together at the Le Violon restaurant.

Two days later, Justin attended Perry’s Lifetime Tours concert in the city’s Belle Centre.

Neither Perry nor the former Canadian politician has publicly addressed their relationship status. Us has reached out for comment.

Perry and Bloom, for their parts, have since been amicably raising their daughter, 4-year-old Daisy Dove, following their breakup.

“They are still very much in touch and coparenting Daisy together,” a source exclusively told Us in June. “Orlando brought Daisy to meet Katy on tour before heading to the Bezos’ wedding. It’s not messy between them. They aren’t making drastic changes for Daisy’s sake.”

Bloom, who also shares 14-year-old son Flynn with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, took Daisy to Australia that month while Perry was performing Down Under. He then went to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding in Italy solo.

Reps for Bloom and Perry later emphasized that there is no drama between the now-exes.

“Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting,” a statement shared with Us read. “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”

Bloom and the “Firework” singer started dating in 2016 and got engaged in 2019.
