‘Euphoria’ fans react to Jacob Elordi’s Nate Jacobs being killed off
Warning: Spoilers ahead! Do not proceed unless you’ve watched “Euphoria” Season 3, episode 7.
“Euphoria” fans are shocked that the show killed off Jacob Elordi’s character, Nate Jacobs.
Following Sunday night’s bombshell episode, viewers took to X to share their reactions to Nate being fatally bitten by a snake while buried alive.
“That whole sequence with Nate and the snake in the coffin is like my worst nightmare wtf was that,” one fan tweeted.
“The way nate dies tho wtf,” another fan wrote.
A third viewer said, “I’m actually traumatized at the scene with Nate & that snake in Euphoria.”
Someone else tweeted, “Holy s–t, what agony that Nate scene was.”
A different viewer explained that while they “hated” Nate, they didn’t enjoy seeing him “die in the most horrific way possible.”
Another fan complained that the show spent so long making Nate into “a complex character” and then abruptly killed him off.
During the episode, Nate was buried alive in a coffin by Naz (Jack Topalian), a gangster he owes approximately one million dollars.
Naz planned to leave Nate down there with a pipe to breathe through for 72 hours while his wife, Cassie (Sweeney), could get the money together.
However, a rattlesnake slithered down the pipe and bit Nate.
Cassie and Maddy (Alexa Demie) got the money but were heartbroken when they showed up to find Nate’s body dug up.
In the “inside the episode” segment at the end, Elordi, 28, called his character’s death a “bittersweet thing.”
“It was a cool way to go, Nate is somebody who’s made so many mistakes and so many dark choices,” he said.
The Oscar nominee also said the HBO series has been a “massive” part of his career and life and that he’s “proud” to have been part of it.
Creator Sam Levinson also defended killing off Nate after the episode aired, telling Esquire he wanted the scene to be “horrific and anxiety-inducing.”
First premiering in 2019, the drama series initially followed its characters in high school.
Season 3, which premiered in April, features a five-year time jump with the characters as young adults, with Nate and Cassie tying the knot.
“Euphoria” Season 3 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
