‘Ever After’ star Patrick Godfrey dead at 93
Patrick Godfrey, who starred in 1998’s “Ever After” with Drew Barrymore, has died at the age of 93.
The actor passed away on Thursday, according to his talent agency, Markham Froggatt & Irwin.
“It is with great sadness that we can confirm Patrick Godfrey passed away last night,” the statement began. “He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Paddy was an exceptionally talented actor and a remarkable individual, and we will miss him greatly.”
A cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
Godfrey was best known for the role of Leonardo da Vinci in the 1998 rom-com, alongside Barrymore and Dougray Scott, Anjelica Huston, Megan Dodds, Melanie Lynskey, Timothy West and Judy Parfitt.
.The movie was a spin on the tale of Cinderella.
Godfrey first broke into the entertainment business in 1956 after joining BBC’s Radio Drama Company.
The late star then made his film debut in the television production of 1972’s “Miss Julie,” alongside Helen Mirren, Donal McCann and Heather Canning.
Godfrey’s career spanned decades, also starring in “Clockwise” in 1986, “The Remains of the Day” in 1993, 2002’s “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “Les Misérables” in 2012.
He also appeared in several television series, including “Doc Martin,” “Fallen Angel,” “Trial & Retribution,” “Shades,” “The Bill,” “Screen Two” and more.
Godfrey last voiced the part of Jim in the 2024 short “Rejoyce!”
His final television show appearance was on the BBC medical drama “Casualty” in 2021.
In 2023, in honor of the 25th anniversary of “Ever After,” Barrymore reflected on how the project changed her perspective on life.
“I was in my early 20s and then I was trying to start a company and wanted to tell stories and make films and that particular messaging that you can rescue yourself and you don’t have to wait to be rescued is definitely the thing that set me up best in my life,” she told Entertainment Tonight at the time about her takeaway.
“I don’t know who I would be, honestly, without it. It changed the way I saw the world,” Barrymore admitted.
