The brutal way Clint Eastwood humbled Kevin Costner’s ‘big ego’ during ‘rise to fame’

Clint Eastwood humbled Kevin Costner’s “big ego” on the set of “A Perfect World” in 1993.

Scott Eastwood shared a “paraphrased” version of the “legendary story” on Monday’s episode of the “Armchair Expert” podcast as an example of his dad maintaining “alpha-ness” while remaining “very calm” and “even keel” without “raising his voice ever.”

The 40-year-old explained that Costner, 71, was “sort of going through maybe … a rise to fame” at the time and “maybe [had] a big ego, blah blah blah.”

The “Yellowstone” alum and Clint, notably, co-starred in the crime thriller, which the latter directed.

“Apparently, Kevin wouldn’t come out of his trailer for some reason,” Scott said, noting that Clint “doesn’t do trailers and things” because he likes to “just be on set.”

Scott explained, “He always told me [that] as a kid. ‘You want to learn how to make movies? You want to learn how to do this? You stay here with everybody else and you make the damn movie.’”

So when Costner “didn’t want to come out of his trailer,” Clint said, “Send him home then.”

When Clint was reminded that his co-star was “in the scene,” the “Dirty Harry” star repeated his instruction.

Scott continued, “So he sent him home and I guess they just went to Kevin and said, ‘Hey, you’re going to go home for the day.’ … He said, ‘What do you mean I’m in the scene?’ [And they said], ‘Well, I guess you’re not anymore.’”

Cracking a joke about “the pecking order,” Scott clarified that “the next day, [Costner] was on set ready to go.”

Reps for Clint and Costner did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment.

Elsewhere in the podcast, Scott opened up about on-set drama of his own, including a brawl with “psychopath” Shia LaBeouf filming “Fury.”

“Everyone had moments with Shia that were, I think at one point, going to come to blows or not,” he quipped, describing the moment he decided “enough [was] enough.”

Last month, he made headlines for calling out a “piece of s–t” A-lister who quit a movie mid-production in an “unbelievable” move.

Scott, who did not name-drop the individual, said, “People get too famous for too long and think the world owes them something.”
