TikTok claims Perez Hilton’s livestream stayed up for 15-20 minutes due to ‘moderator error’

TikTok has claimed Perez Hilton’s livestream seemingly depicting self harm lasted between 15 to 20 minutes due to a “moderator error.”

According to a statement obtained by Deadline on Wednesday, a United States rep for the social media platform addressed why, despite the video going against their community guidelines — and despite it being flagged for removal within minutes of the shocking video beginning — the livestream was allowed to persist before finally being shut down.

Per the outlet, TikTok said law enforcement was also contacted, and several streams were closed within 90 seconds, which resulted in the gossip blogger’s account being deactivated and banned.

Page Six has reached out to reps for the social media platform and for Hilton.

The media personality, who rose to fame in the 2000s with his unapologetic take on celebrity culture, made headlines on Tuesday when he was hospitalized following an apparent self harm livestream on the platform.

According to 911 dispatch audio obtained previously obtained by Page Six, authorities responded to a call reporting a “suicide attempt” on Tuesday evening at the media personality’s Miami home.

Cops were heard in surveillance footage obtained by Page Six saying, “Mario, it’s the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, please step out of the house,” referencing Hilton’s real name, Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr.

He was eventually “safely recovered and transported … to a local hospital,” where his family later confirmed he was “receiving medical care.”

In multiple updates, the family has said they are “taking things one step at a time and keeping our focus where it belongs,” and that focus “right now is on his well-being.”

They also noted that he is “able to communicate” and asked the general public to “respect Perez’s privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time.”

Hilton’s family said in their most recent update on Thursday that his three children, his niece and his sister Barbara Lavandeira “were inside the home” in the minutes before the livestream.

They also divulged that they “immediately fled to protect” the children “from witnessing any further trauma,” when it became obvious that “Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself.”

Prior to the incident, a source previously confirmed to Page Six, Hilton had struggled with a number of mounting pressures following two hospitalizations earlier this year.

The gossip blogger had recently moved from Las Vegas to Miami and was facing “pretty extreme” medical bills, the source divulged.

On Thursday, in a new episode of “Hang Out With Sean Hannity” that was filmed last month, Hilton said he’d reached out to “make amends” over his past media coverage of A-listers including Britney Spears and Khloe Kardashian, who he said was “kind” in her response.

“Some people don’t respond back, and that’s fine,” Hilton added.
