Teen Mom’s Jenelle Evans Defends Decision to Homeschool 2 of Her Kids: ‘I’m Not the Teacher’
Teen Mom alum Jenelle Evans has made a decision to homeschool two of her children.
“There might be mixed opinions about this — I’m not sure — but I decided to homeschool my kids,” Evans, 34, shared via Instagram on Wednesday, August 26. “Now, I know some of you are thinking like, ‘She’s too dumb to homeschool her kids. She doesn’t know what she’s doing.’ Listen, I’m not the teacher in this. I just put them on the computer.”
Evans — who shares Jace, 17, with ex Andrew Lewis, Kaiser, 12, with ex Nathan Griffin, and Ensley, 9, with ex-husband David Eason — said her two youngest kids are enrolled in ACELLUS Academy. So far, she said, there’s “no complaints.”
“The first week of homeschooling has been going great,” Evans shared. “They’ve been getting their school work done literally in two hours, and I’m always right here if they need my help.”
The former 16 and Pregnant star said there were many reasons why she decided homeschooling would be best for her youngest kids. (Jace is currently living with his grandma Barbara Evans and enrolled in an undisclosed high school.)
“One of the reasons why [they are being homeschooled] is Kaiser was having a really hard time being bullied in school,” Jenelle shared. “He dealt with this in Las Vegas, dealt with it in North Carolina, and I was sick of it. As soon as he got into this school, it was bullying once again — mainly having to do with his weight.”
Another factor that played in Jenelle’s decision was her CRPS diagnosis.
According to the Mayo Clinic, CRPS is a chronic, severe neuro-inflammatory pain condition usually affecting an arm or a leg. It’s characterized by continuous burning pain, extreme touch sensitivity and localized swelling.
“I literally cannot drive them to and from school because I am in too much pain. Their school is 40 minutes there and back in the morning and in the afternoon,” Jenelle claimed. “I literally was taking two hours, three hours out of my day in the morning and the afternoon just to do drop-offs and pick-ups.”
The reality star continued, “Also, I feel like I know what they’re being taught as a parent and I don’t have to worry about any craziness being instilled inside their head. Not to mention if I do have to do any traveling, they can go with me.”
According to ACELLUS Academy, the online homeschool program is designed to accelerate your child’s education. Its mission is to become the nation’s premier institution for accelerated learning.
