Al Roker trolls John Travolta over his berets in front of daughter Ella

Al Roker is getting in on the beret action.

The meteorologist jokingly trolled John Travolta on Wednesday’s episodes of “Today” after the actor made headlines for sporting different colored berets at the Cannes Film Festival last week.

After Willie Geist interviewed Travolta, 72, and his daughter, Ella, 26, the show cut to a split of the “Grease” actor wearing a black beret and Roker, 71, wearing a white beret.

“Al!” Travolta said with a laugh in response to Roker’s look.

“Oui oui monsieur,” Roker quipped, as Travolta told the weatherman to “go for it.”

Roker then joked, “I’m being directed by an award-winning director. I like it!”

“What’s my motivation, John?” Roker added as the segment ended.

Travolta and Ella appeared on “Today” to promote his directorial debut “Propeller One-Way Night Coach,” which is based on Travolta’s 1997 children’s novel of the same name.

At the movie’s premiere in Cannes last Friday, Travolta caused a stir with his choice of headgear, rocking a slouchy white beret and spectacles.

The following day, Travolta wore a black beret paired with black wire-rimmed glasses at the film’s photocall and a brown beret with a matching jacket on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday.

On “Today,” the Oscar winner explained the inspiration for his much-talked-about outfits in France.

“I said, ‘You know what, I’m making a directorial debut,’ and if you look up on the internet, ‘directors and berets,’ every era for 100 years has directors wearing berets,” he told Geist, 51.

Travolta added, “I thought, ‘Well, I’m not an actor this time, I’m a director. Show up like a director.’ So I did that and that’s really the simplicity of it.”

The “Saturday Night Fever” said at Cannes that his berets will help him remember his time at the film festival.

“I’ll know — ‘Oh, that was ‘Propeller One-Way Night Coach,’ that was Cannes, that’s when I won the Palme d’Or,’ and I’ll have a vividness of it,” he told CNN.

Travolta was presented with an honorary Cannes Palme d’Or — the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award — at the event on Friday.

He received the award in front of Ella, who has been by her dad’s side promoting their movie, in which she plays a flight attendant.

Travolta welcomed Ella with late wife, Kelly Preston, who died of breast cancer at age 57 in 2020.
