Around 60% of Coachella’s Ticket Buyers Used a Buy-Now-Pay-Later Payment Method: Report

As music festival prices continue to soar, fans are now opting for payment plans to obtain their tickets.
In a new report published by Billboard on April 17, studies found that of the 80,000-plus attendees at the music festival, roughly 60% used a payment plan to afford their tickets.
Coachella’s payment plan is offered in partnership with AXS and attendees can choose to put down as little as $49.99 to reserve their tickets, paying the rest off over several months. An additional $41 charge is added for using the service.
Ticket prices, which begin at $649, are now up from the $429 in 2020. The cost for shuttle passes and hotels can also be broken down into a payment plan for Coachella.
Per the outlet, Coachella launched the buy-now-pay-later program in 2009 and only 18 percent of attendees used it at the time.
Other festivals like Lollapalooza, Electric Daisy Carnival and Rolling Loud also selling majority of their tickets using payment plans, per the outlet.
On X, social media users expressed their opinions on the statistic. While some were in support of the interest-free payments, others had choice words.
“Broke people will do anything to look rich,” wrote one social media user.
Another added, “I dont see why it’s that big of a deal. Is it any different than saying 60% of people at Coachella use a credit card for purchases? People finance s—. It’s nothing new. Every retailer offers some type of financing now, so why blame the people?”
“That is quite concerning,” wrote another user.
This year’s festival, which took place over the course of two weekends in April, was headlined by Lady Gaga, Post Malone, Green Day and Travis Scott.
In addition to the headliners, the festival featured a star-studded list of surprise guests and memorable moments like a firework lighting a palm tree on fire during Green Day’s set, all of Gaga’s Easter eggs and the “Butterfly Effect” rapper giving his daughter Stormi Webster a sweet shout-out on stage.
