Beartooth fans praise ‘brave’ Caleb Shomo after rocker comes out as gay

Fans are praising Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo, who has been married to a woman for 14 years, for “bravely” coming out as gay.

The metalcore rocker, who wed Fleur Shomo in April 2012, revealed that he is “a proudly gay man” in a vulnerable statement posted on Instagram over the weekend.

Despite feeling “hurt” and “disoriented” by her husband’s revelation, Fleur publicly vowed to “love and support” him — and asked his fans to do the same.

“Sending love and support 💪 His statement is powerful,” one of whom subsequently posted on X.

“I’m so proud of Caleb Shomo,” added another X user who emphasized “how hard it can be to come to terms with being queer.”

Someone else stressed that “it is never too late to come out as gay” and marveled, “His wife’s mindset is truly respectable.”

Many critics were quick to condemn the singer-songwriter, 33, for “wasting” Fleur’s time, but as one defender argued, “Any gay individual coming out after 14 years of straight marriage in our homomisic, cisheteronormative society is not inherently an abuser that wasted years of their partner’s life.”

Those who have followed Caleb’s journey know he was raised in a hyper-religious family and struggled with anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders and substance abuse.

After leaving the band Attack Attack!, the vocalist formed Beartooth, whose early music focused on mental health struggles and personal demons.

But in February, the group released a track titled “Free,” on which Caleb sings, “There’s nobody else I’d rather be, so what the f–k is stopping me?”

He previously described the single as “the start of the next chapter of [his] music and [his] life,” elaborating, “This song shows a glimpse of what is to come from the next Beartooth album, which is the most honest depiction of my soul I will most likely ever make.”

Fans picked up what he was putting down and flooded the comments section of the track’s music video with positivity.

“Hearing Beartooth’s first song talking about dealing with alcoholism to hearing this now is really invigorating,” one person remarked beneath the visual.

“2016: I just wanna live free! 2026: I’m free! Such a huge difference in 10 years, so proud of you Caleb ❤️,” another supporter echoed.

“Good for him! Congratulations for being so brave and open!!” someone else chimed in, with yet another commenter adding, “I’m happy that Caleb seems to be healing and that he is feeling so comfortable with himself.”

“The self love and confidence is beautiful. I’m so happy to see him expressing himself. Been here since the beginning, not going anywhere anytime soon! 🖤🖤,” one particular day-one exclaimed, as someone else praised the musician for his commitment to “being the happiest version of himself!”

As for Caleb’s bandmates’ reaction to the news, Beartooth bassist Oshie Bichar has publicly offered his pal support.
