Billy Bob Thornton, 70, dishes on wild full-frontal ‘Landman’ scene
Billy Bob Thornton didn’t sweat his shocking full-frontal scene in “Landman.”
The actor, 70, spoke out about the wild scene in which his character, Tommy Norris, accidentally flashes a hotel employee while in bed.
“I don’t know what the reaction was,” Thornton told Us Weekly at the Newport Beach TV Fest on Saturday. “But obviously before we filmed, it was kind of like, ‘Whoa, yikes. This is interesting.’”
Thornton called the scene “funny,” adding, “And I didn’t care.”
In the highly talked-about scene from “Landman” Season 2, Tommy rolls over while asleep and exposes himself to a female hotel worker, who screams and wakes him up. The employee freaks out and asks him not to rape her as Ali Larter’s character, Angela, steps out of the bathroom and tells Tommy, “Put your d–k away!”
Angela tells the frightened woman of Tommy, “He eats Cialis [an erectile disfunction medication] like M&Ms and runs into door jams all morning with that thing. I’m so sorry about that.”
After the hotel employee leaves, Angela tells Tommy, “Poor thing. If she wasn’t a lesbian when she walked in here, she’s a f–king lesbian now.” Tommy then threatens to “f–k the whole breakfast.”
“Landman” co-creator Christian Wallace clarified to the Hollywood Reporter in January that Thornton’s scene wasn’t as revealing as audiences may have believed.
“We had an on-set intimacy coordinator, and the original prosthetic she brought in made everyone laugh,” he told the outlet. “We were like, ‘No.’ So we went with a more humble alternative.”
“But it is surprising to me that people think that was actually Billy doing full-frontal nudity,” Wallace added. “So I should say props to our intimacy coordinator for making it extremely realistic, and to the props team. They had a whole rig, as Billy called it: ‘Got my rig on.’”
In December 2025, Paramount renewed “Landman” for a third season.
The Paramount+ series, which stars Thornton as a landman for an oil company in West Texas, also stars Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Michelle Randolph and Sam Elliott.
Thornton also addressed speculation that his character Tommy is going to die to Us Weekly, noting, “I think Antoinette Bueno Taylor [Sheridan] is going to let me hang around.”
Thornton praised Sheridan despite the “Yellowstone” creator’s lack of major awards for his popular television series.
“It’s like, ‘If you have a disagreement over someone’s way or vibe or whatever it is, that’s not the point,” he said. “The point is, is he good? He writes great stuff.”
“He’s created quite an empire — and you have to respect him for that. He has the fame, he has the success, he deserves to be recognized for his work in TV shows, for sure.”
