Over the course of their six-year relationship, Cameron Rose Newell has proven her unwavering support for her boyfriend, Brock Bowers, and his athletic career. However, her father just so happened to look like an even bigger Bowers fan on his NFL draft day.
During a recent interview with WAGTalk — a social media page dedicated to the partners of professional athletes — Newell, 22, recalled the momentous occasion when Bowers was officially selected by the Las Vegas Raiders. The 23-year-old tight end was chosen as the 13th overall pick in the 2024 draft.
In the video posted on Tuesday, Dec. 23, WAGTalk’s Maddy Sells asked about the draft night experience after noting that Newell’s father was already a Raiders fan before Bowers signed with the franchise after concluding his successful college football career with the University of Georgia Bulldogs.
The Napa Valley native explained how on the day of Bowers’ draft party, her dad decided to wear a vintage Raiders championship jacket from when the team was still based in its originally city of Oakland, Calif. (The Raiders moved to Los Angeles in 1982, before ultimately relocating to Las Vegas in 2020.)
Newell said she advised her dad not to bring the jacket, telling him, “You don’t know if he’s gonna go to the Raiders.” However, he insisted on bringing his merch, since it would likely be his only opportunity to attend a draft party.
“We were like, yeah, no way the Raiders are gonna draft him. They hadn’t even called him or talked to him literally throughout the entire draft process,” Newell explained. She then remembered how Bowers took the highly anticipated call, came back into the room and picked up a Raiders hat.
As the room erupted in celebration, Newell’s dad became especially emotional. “He has tears running down his face. He’s holding up the jacket in the back,” she says, describing her proud parent’s reaction, as captured in photos from the party. “It was just crazy.”
Earlier in the interview, Newell shared how she and Bowers started dating the summer before their senior year of high school, though they attended different schools in the Napa area.

“He texted me and said I was pretty or something, and then, yeah, the rest is history,” she detailed of their early relationship. “I actually made the first move cause he was too nervous.”
They went on to attend to different colleges as well; while Bowers played for Georgia, Newell continued her education at the University of Tennessee.
