Catherine O’Hara laid to rest in private funeral with close friends and family

Catherine O’Hara’s closest friends and family gathered to say goodbye to the comedy icon during a private memorial held over the weekend, two weeks after her death.

Actress Kelly Lynch offered fans a look at the funeral service booklet from the ceremony, which was held at St. Martin of Tours Church in Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 14.

“Rest in peace darling Catherine,” Lynch, 67, wrote on Instagram alongside a pic of the booklet on Monday.

The “Road House” star also included a quote from writer Raymond Carver in her touching post.

“And did you get what you wanted from this life, even so? I did,” Lynch wrote. “And what did you want? To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth.”

O’Hara died at her home in Los Angeles following a brief illness on Jan. 30, her agency confirmed in a statement to Page Six. She was 71.

Her team provided an official obituary to Page Six and confirmed that a “private celebration of life” would be held by the family.

Page Six exclusively learned that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at the “Beetlejuice” star’s Brentwood home around 4:48 a.m. after she experienced “breathing difficulty.” 

O’Hara was transported to the hospital in “serious” condition.

On Feb. 9, more than one week after her tragic passing, it was revealed that O’Hara died of a blood clot in her lungs. Her immediate cause of death was listed by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health as a pulmonary embolism, and rectal cancer was listed as the underlying cause, according to TMZ.

The outlet also claimed that O’Hara was cremated, per her death certificate, and that her husband received her remains.

The “SCTV” alum was last publicly seen during the 2025 Angel Awards at the Proper Hotel Santa Monica in Los Angeles this past October.

Although O’Hara looked chipper as usual as she posed for pictures with her husband on the red carpet, a guest at the ceremony acknowledged that she “looked very slender” during the event.

“She seemed to be in great spirits, however, and was very friendly and upbeat and lovely,” a source told Daily Mail.

O’Hara was reportedly scheduled to shoot Season 2 of Seth Rogen’s Apple TV hit “The Studio,” but pulled out just days before her death.

Her schedule was ultimately “reworked” to “focus on scenes without her character” as she addressed “personal matters,” according to the Sun.

“It was not widely known she was dealing with any health or major issues,” an insider told the outlet.

Countless celebrities and co-stars shared tributes to the beloved Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress following the news of her shocking death.

Eugene Levy, who worked with O’Hara on several projects during their more than 50-year friendship, began his tribute by acknowledging that “words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today.”

“I had the honor of knowing and working with the great Catherine O’Hara for over fifty years,” he said in an emotional statement. “From our beginnings on the Second City stage, to SCTV, to the movies we did with Chris Guest, to our six glorious years on Schitt’s Creek, I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship.”

“And I will miss her,” Levy, 79, added. “My heart goes out to Bo, Matthew, Luke, and the entire O’Hara family.”

Macaulay Culkin, who starred as O’Hara’s onscreen son in the first two “Home Alone” movies, also remembered the late acting and comedy icon in a touching tribute of his own.

“Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you,” Culkin, 45, wrote on Instagram.

“But I had so much more to say,” he added. “I love you. I’ll see you later.”
