Charli XCX throws shade at pop star tour docs after Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film announcement
It’s actually romantic.
Charli XCX threw shade at pop stars who release tour documentaries in a new interview that was published just one day after Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film announcement.
The “365” singer revealed she turned down the idea of doing her own tour documentary amid her “brat” fame while speaking to Vanity Fair about her upcoming movie projects.
Per writer Anna Peele, Charli, 33, “felt the market was already saturated with similar projects.”
“I feel like my problem with a lot of musician documentaries is, it often shows the musician coming up against some kind of opposition and eventually overcoming it to be the hero,” the singer, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, explained.
“And that’s just not been my experience, you know? Maybe it has been a lot of other people’s, and that’s awesome.”
She said that, instead of making a tour documentary, she would be starring in a mockumentary about a pop star gearing up to lead her first headlining tour called “The Moment,” which is set for a 2026 release.
The “2024 period piece,” as she describes it to the outlet, is not a “tour documentary or a concert film in any way, but the seed of the idea was conceived from this idea of being pressured to make one.”
She added, “It’s fiction, but it’s the realest depiction of the music industry that I’ve ever seen.”
Charli’s comments come one day after her rumored nemesis, Swift, announced the upcoming release of a six-episode documentary surrounding her record-breaking Eras Tour.
The trailer for the docuseries included several intimate, behind-the-scenes moments from tour, as well as glimpses of her romance with now-fiancé Travis Kelce.
At one point in her interview with Vanity Fair, Charli was asked about her rumored feud with Swift, 36.
After pointing out that the “Apple” singer has not been hiding following the release of Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl,” Peele noted that she “declined to comment on the situation.”

Charli’s alleged feud with Swift began when people thought the former’s song “Sympathy Is a Knife” was about the latter.
However, the outlet points out that the song, which is “about self-doubt,” was misinterpreted “as a diss track” by both fans and Swift.
Nonetheless, many fans think the “Wood” singer addressed the situation with her own diss track. Swift has yet to confirm whether the song is about Charli — or about Kim Kardashian, like others are theorizing.
