‘Charlie’s Angels’ alum Kate Jackson on why she stepped away from spotlight

“Charlie’s Angels” star Kate Jackson says her extreme fame from the series caused her to step away from the spotlight 20 years ago.

“We lost our privacy, totally. We just absolutely totally lost every bit of privacy,” the actress, 77, told People Monday night, ahead of the show’s 50th anniversary celebration event at PaleyFest Los Angeles.

Jackson, who reunited with former co-stars Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd at the event, added, “And then, to make it worse, those horrible tabloids.”

“Charlie’s Angels,” which aired on ABC from 1976 to 1981, originally starred Jackson, Smith and the late Farrah Fawcett, who quit the show after Season 1 and was replaced by Ladd.

Two years later, Jackson exited the series and was replaced by Shelley Hack, followed by Tanya Roberts, who died in 2021.

Jackson walked away from Hollywood around 2007, resurfacing only a few times since then, including Fawcett’s funeral in 2009 and Smith’s son Gaston Richmond’s wedding in 2023.

At the show’s anniversary event, Jackson told People that she’s not a fan of social media.

“I don’t understand social media. I mean, I don’t get it,” she shared.

“All I want is a little privacy. And I don’t understand why people are so fond of taking their picture and telling the world where they are at this very moment, doing this thing. I don’t get it.”

During PaleyFest LA, the “Charlie’s Angels” trio posed for photos together on the red carpet and also spoke about the show and its longstanding legacy.

Jackson exclusively told Page Six that she’s “incredibly grateful” there’s still so much love for the series.

“[I] never dreamed from day one, 50 years later, anyone would be interested at all or even had seen it,” she gushed.

“But the fact is its never gone off the air, ever. It’s always been on television.”

During an appearance on “Today” on Tuesday, Jackson, Smith, 80, and Ladd, 74, also spoke about how being cancer survivors has bonded all three of them over the years.

“It just connects you because you know what they’re going through,” Smith told interviewer Maria Shriver.

Smith added, “And that’s when I talk about the power of girlfriends.”
