‘Could not wait to get kicked off’
Priscilla Presley isn’t dancing around her feelings.
The actress admitted that she wasn’t a fan of her time on “Dancing With the Stars” in 2008, due to her pro partner, Louis van Amstel, allegedly being distracted by a new relationship at the time.
“I could not wait to get kicked off that show,” Presley, 80, confessed over the weekend during a speaking engagement in Las Vegas, per Us Weekly. “I was so nervous because … my partner, who I liked very much, was in a new relationship with another guy.”
The businesswoman claimed van Amstel, 53, was “in a new relationship” while they were competing on Season 6 of the show, and would rush out of rehearsals to get back home to his partner.
“He had a date, and he wanted to get this and that, and I was a little bit frustrated because he put that before us,” alleged Presley. “I felt we could have done a lot better.”
According to Presley, the duo only rehearsed for three hours a day, while their competitors practiced for up to six hours. Despite her concerns, she was still in it to win it.
“I like challenges,” she gushed. “I didn’t know how to dance that well. I mean, I did like dancing, but I thought, ‘You know what, I’m gonna go in for it and do it, and I think it’ll be fun.’ Yeah, still nerve-wracking.”
Presley and van Amstel ultimately finished in eighth place.
Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi and pro dancer Mark Ballas took home the Season 6 Mirrorball Trophy, while Miami Dolphins player Jason Taylor and pro partner Edyta Śliwińska placed second.
Page Six has reached out to van Amstel’s rep for comment.
As previously reported, Van Amstel went on to tie the knot with Joshua Lancaster in Sundance, Utah, in 2017 after eight years together. They divorced in October 2023.
Despite Presley’s recent comments, van Amstel allegedly enjoyed their time working together.
“What an amazing woman,” the choreographer gushed to Us Weekly back in November. “[Out of] all my celebrities, I see her the most.”
Van Amstel noted at the time that he and the actress — who was famously married to Elvis Presley from 1967 to 1973 — “always have dinner” when he visits Los Angeles, calling her “a quality woman.”
