Geena Davis says George Clooney hated Brad Pitt after he won ‘Thelma & Louise’ role
Geena Davis revealed George Clooney hated his “Ocean’s Eleven” co-star Brad Pitt after he lost a “Thelma & Louise” role to him.
Davis recalled Clooney informing her of their beef during her Thursday night appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.”
“I got on a plane, and the flight staff was waiting at the entrance to the plane for me expectantly, and they said, ‘Guess who you’re sitting next to? George Clooney,’” Davis recalled while sitting alongside fellow guest Nathan Fillion. “And I said, ‘Guess who he’s sitting next to.’”
In a “very gregarious” and “talkative” mood, Clooney went on to tell Davis that he dislikes Pitt.
“And at one point, we’re talking about Brad Pitt, and he says, ‘You know, I hate that Brad Pitt.’ I said, ‘No, you don’t. Isn’t he like your best friend or something?’” she shared.
“No, I hate him because he got the part in ‘Thelma & Louise,’” Clooney allegedly told the “Beetlejuice” star.
Davis then asked him, “‘Oh, did you want to get that part?’ And he said, ‘Couldn’t you tell when I read with you?’”
Amused by Davis’ story, Cohen admitted that Pitt was the “right guy” for the job.
The 1991 film “Thelma & Louise” tells the story of Thelma (Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon) who go on a crime spree while on the run after Louise shoots Harlan Puckett (Timothy Carhart).
Pitt starred in the movie as J.D., a hustler. The role served as his breakout performance.
Elsewhere in her Thursday night interview, Davis dished on what it was like to kiss a young Pitt in the 90s buddy comedy.
“Thelma & Louise is considered to be Brad Pitt’s breakout role. You went to bat for him famously during the audition process. With a word, describe what it’s like to kiss Brad Pitt,” Cohen asked Davis.
“Oh, with a word?” Davis joked. “Really? I don’t know if I want to answer this question.”
Fillion helped Davis by offering up the words “memorable, sublime,” which Davis agreed with.
“What did you see in him that made you go to bat for him?” Cohen went on to ask.
“Look, he got the part all on his own merit,” Davis said, adding that she felt he had “the best” reading when he auditioned.
