Is ‘Cancelled’ about Taylor Swift’s pal Brittany Mahomes? Why fans think so
Fans are convinced Taylor Swift’s new song on her “The Life of a Showgirl” album — “CANCELLED!” — is about her close pal Brittany Mahomes.
Swift became friends with the WAG when she started dating Travis Kelce in the summer of 2023. Kelce is close friends with his Kansas City Chiefs teammate, Patrick Mahomes, who has been married to Brittany, his high school sweetheart, since 2022.
In the tenth track of the album, Swift, 35, offered advice to an unnamed ally who was “cancelled.”
“Did you girlboss too close to the sun? / Did they catch you having far too much fun? / Come with me, when they see us, they’ll run / Something wicked this way comes,” Swift sings.
Swift suggests that she herself has been ostracized by the public in the past, seemingly referencing the social turmoil she faced in 2016 amid her feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
“Good thing I like my friends cancelled / I like ’em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal,” she croons in part. “Like my whiskey sour / And poison thorny flowers / Welcome to my underworld / Where it gets quite dark / At least you know exactly who your friends are / They’re the ones with matching scars.”
Swift has been rocking the Gucci label in the months leading up to her album release. And Swifties quickly gathered that her mention of the Italian fashion brand could also be an Easter egg pointing to Brittany.

The former soccer player famously wore Gucci attire while enjoying a double date with Patrick, Kelce and Swift at the 2024 US Open. Kelce notably wore head-to-toe Gucci to the sporting event as well.
Brittany has faced her fair share of internet backlash over the years, including being slammed for spraying football fans with Champagne after the Chiefs won their 2022 AFC divisional playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.
The internet hate was so bad that Brittany addressed her critics by tweeting, “I just wish I could do what I want without getting attacked every week.”
Brittany was also dragged for hinting at her support for President Donald Trump — a direct betrayal of Swift’s Democratic political stance.
But Swift goes in on her lyrics to say that she doesn’t care about the vitriol being spread by internet trolls.
“We’ll take you by the hand / And soon you’ll learn the art of never getting caught,” she sings.
Hearsay had swirled about tensions between Swift and Brittany, but the singer put the rumors to rest by attending the trainer’s 30th birthday party in September.
Finally, fans believed the song was pointing at Brittany thanks to the sporty reference to a “roster” in her lyrics.
“It’s easy to love you when you’re popular / The optics click, everyone prospers / But one single drop you’re off the roster / Tone-deaf and hot, let’s f—ing off her,” she sings.
Swift’s twelfth studio album debuted on Friday and included several other Easter eggs.
