Kate Hudson Shares Her Wedding Planning Concerns 5 Years After Getting Engaged to Danny Fujikawa

Kate Hudson admittedly has some concerns about planning her future wedding as her 5-year engagement to partner Danny Fujikawa continues.

“I still am not married. I’m just engaged. And I keep thinking about [the] wedding and what are we going to do,” the actress, 47, said on the Tuesday, September 8, episode of her and her brother Oliver Hudson‘s “Sibling Revelry” podcast on iHeartRadio. “Every time we started thinking about who we have to invite and Danny’s like, ‘I just want a small wedding.’ Our family alone is like 50 people.”

Kate explained to guests Joey King and Hunter King that her and Oliver’s family is “huge.”

“We’ve got, like, a million kids. There’s a million uncles and aunts and cousins,” she added.

Kate also admitted that the price tag attached to her future nuptials is also a factor in why she and Fujikawa have been taking their time when it comes to setting an official date.

“That’s part of why I don’t want to get married,” she confessed. “It’s too expensive.”

Kate and Fujikawa, 40, started dating in 2016 and welcomed daughter Rani Rose, 7, in October 2018. (The Running Point actress is also mother to sons Ryder, 22, and Bingham, 14, whom she shares with ex husband Chris Robinson and ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy, respectively.)

After five years of dating, Fujikawa popped the question in September 2021.

“Let’s go! 👰‍♀️💒🤵🏻‍♂️,” Kate wrote via Instagram while showing off her engagement ring in a sweet photo.

Two months later, Kate opened up about how daunting it can be to plan a wedding.

“You know what I’m doing? I’m pre-planning the planning. Just kind of thinking of what we want to do and then I’m going back and forth between like, ‘What is this really going to look like?’” she told Entertainment Tonight, comparing the process to her 2009 rom-com Bride Wars. “Obviously, we’re so excited. But the idea of planning a wedding is, like, a lot. It’s a lot. I made a whole movie about it.”

Kate echoed similar sentiments two years later, when she and Fujikawa were vexed on what kind of wedding to have.

“We do sometimes go back and forth with the traditional Japanese wedding ceremony, which would be really beautiful and quite emotional for Danny, seeing as his dad is gone,” she said during a February 2023 appearance on the “Table for Two” podcast.. “It’ll totally be a destination wedding. It’ll be such an adventure that people will really want to have to come to show up. To me, those are always the most fun weddings. Like, if you really want to be there, you’ll be there. … If someone’s like, ‘I can’t really be there,’ then I don’t want you there. That’s all I got right now. That’s all I got for the wedding.”
