Katie Stevens is pushing for a Bold Type spinoff movie — and her former costars are on board!
Stevens starred alongside Meghann Fahy and Aisha Dee on the Freeform series for five seasons from 2017 to 2021. The trio played a group of friends who worked at Scarlet Magazine and the series followed their journeys living and working together in New York City.
But even though the show has been off the air for four years now, fans are still talking about how much they adore the series — and its tight-knit cast — today.
“I had imposter syndrome at Comic-Con, being like, ‘Will anyone here know me?’ Because I’ve never really done a sci-fi and I’ve never been in something like Marvel or DC,” Stevens, who currently stars in Hallmark Channel’s film trilogy Providence Falls, tells PEOPLE. “And then I realized that Comic-Con is really just about fans.”
“And the amount of people that came up to me and were talking to me about how much they love The Bold Type and how they are on their fourth rewatch with their best friend, that was just epic,” she continues, noting that she’d love to see a “Bold Type movie.”
“I’m in,” she says. “Me, Meghann, and Aisha, every interview we do separately, we talk about how we want to do something Bold Type-related again, to do a movie or something. We’re all primed and ready to do it.”
“So I’m just like, ‘We just need to get it out there that we want to do it and then have fans rally,'” she adds. “Because there’s a lot of remakes of things happening and spinoffs of things, and I’m just like, ‘Let’s just do a Bold Type Hulu original movie or something!'”
Since the show, the women have maintained their tight bond, often reuniting and supporting each other amidst their career successes.
In fact, Stevens revealed to PEOPLE at the Comic-Con 2025 Entertainment Weekly Party on July 26 that she sees Fahy and Dee as “my girls for life” and she will “hype every single thing that they do.”
Recently, that support paid off as she predicted Fahy’s Emmy nomination for Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role in Sirens.
“I had watched Sirens and I was like, ‘Your performance is so amazing. You’re going to get nominated for an Emmy.’ And she was like, ‘No,'” Stevens recalls. “And then when the Emmy noms came out, I texted her all caps and said, ‘I told you so.'”
As for Dee, Stevens tells PEOPLE that they recently met up in Los Angeles after two long years apart.
“Literally, I was in LA for less than 24 hours the other day, and I met up with Aisha, and I hadn’t seen her in a very long time because the last couple roles that she’s taken have taken her to Australia,” she explains. “So she was in Australia for basically the last two years. We FaceTime all the time, but it was the first time we got to be in person together. We went to go get her ears pierced, which we’ve been talking about her doing for the last 10 years. And she sent me a really beautiful voice note.”
“It’s the most beautiful friendship and the two of them are some of the greatest loves of my lives, being my sisters for life,” she adds of Dee and Fahy. “And it means so much to me that we are champions of one another no matter what is going on in life.”
Her costars have also made an impact on the life of her daughter, Rome, whom she shares with husband Paul DiGiovanni.
“They’ve both met my daughter and made such an effort to be a part of her life, and we just truly are a family,” she says. “And that’s not always the case with every show that you do. But I’ve been really lucky with most of the projects that I’ve done that I’ve been able to walk away with lifelong friends, but specifically, obviously, with them as my sisters.”
Stevens isn’t the only Bold Type star who has expressed interest in a reboot.
In May 2023, Sam Page, who played the fan-favorite role of Richard Hunter, gave PEOPLE a resounding “Hell yes, absolutely” when asked if he would consider returning to the world of Scarlet magazine.
Recalling the good times he had with costar Fahy, who played his on-screen love interest Sutton Brady, Page said: “It was so much fun. I loved working with Meghann. It was the best.”
Page said he and Fahy would “always talk about spinning off the show” as The Bold Type came to an end and even revealed that “there were ideas that were seriously bounced around … but couldn’t do because of character rights and stuff.”
“But I would imagine she would launch her own fashion line,” he added of a potential spinoff for the couple. “And then it would be an exploration — which was the storyline we kind of never really got to do and I was always always thought we would do on the show — of why somebody in a position like Sutton’s can’t have it all because they’re a woman, and why you can’t have the family [and] the extreme level of success of her business, of her fashion design. I think with the show we always talked about it and hoped we would hit that point of an exploration of that.”
