The FBI has returned valuable items previously stolen from Keanu Reeves’ home in a 2023 jewelry heist.
In a press release on Tuesday, Nov. 18, the FBI confirmed that the stolen items were returned to Reeves, 61. The agency also shared that theThe Matrix star penned a handwritten thank you note to the government agency, beginning, “It is with profound gratitude and appreciation that I am writing this letter.”
After thanking the several agencies involved in the search for the missing items, Reeves concluded the letter, “Thank you so much for all your effort, dedication, professionalism and cross-border cooperation. My warmest regards, Keanu.”
Chilean authorities confirmed they would turn over Reeves’ stolen property, including six valuable watches, on July 29.
Among the watches is an engraved Rolex Submariner worth at least $9,500. The total value of the wristwatch is $125,000, a police officer from Chile’s robbery investigation squad told the Associated Press (AP).
Chilean prosecutors told reporters that the John Wick star identified the valuable watches as the same ones stolen from his Los Angeles home in December 2023. CNN first reported the watches had surfaced in eastern Santiago a year later in December 2024. At the time, authorities arrested one individual in connection with the “violent robberies.”
“This case is a perfect example of the excellent international cooperation we enjoy with our Chilean counterparts and our local partners at Los Angeles Police Department,” Akil Davis, the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, said in the press release.
“While burglary is a local crime in the United States, the FBI works collaboratively with the Los Angeles Police Department and others to share intelligence via our Major Theft Task Force and through other channels,” Davis continued in the statement. “These crimes affect celebrities and non-public figures alike, and the FBI is committed to assisting our local partners in combatting this scourge affecting the lives of innocent victims.”
The agency’s statement alleged that the theft had been carried out by what it describes as “South American Theft Groups,” or “criminal organizations from South American countries who travel to the United States and other nations to commit theft.”
The FBI added that it is “actively investigating multiple SATG-linked crimes with local partners that occurred in numerous jurisdictions in the United States.”
In August, Reeves met with FBI personnel and a Chilean PDI Officer in New York to retrieve his stolen items, the release confirmed.

“This case underscores how crime today knows no borders, and how vital our international partnerships are in bringing justice to victims here in Los Angeles,” LAPD Chief of Police Jim McDonnell said in the FBI’s press release.
“The recovery of these stolen items—thanks to the outstanding collaboration between the Policía de Investigaciones de Chile, the FBI, and our detectives—sends a strong message that organized theft groups will be pursued wherever they operate,” McDonnell continued. “I am proud of the work our team has done alongside our federal and international partners to hold these criminal networks accountable.”
