Love Island USA’s Amaya Opens Up About Wearing Her Viral Muumuu on the Show: ‘It Really Made Me Feel Grounded’

Amaya Espinal has a new man, a cash prize, and viral fame.

In an interview with the Today show Tuesday, July 15, the Love Island USA season 7 winner sat down with her beau, Bryan Arenales, and opened up about one of the most viral moments from the show — her muumuu.

As fans may recall, Amaya made an impression when she wore the green flowy dress during episode 28. The piece, which is known as a house dress in the U.S., has a rich cultural history across various groups of people, according to Teen Vogue.

The reality television star immediately got fans’ approval online for wearing it around the villa.

“Amaya turnin men out in ya tia’s muumuu cmon queen diva DONTTTT PLAY WIT HERRRR,” one person wrote on X. “Amaya wearing that muumuu OKAYYYYYU,” shared another.

While speaking about the talked-about outfit on Tuesday, Amaya said, “They only let me know a day before I was going to be flown out. So once I found out, I went to my closet and I just threw everything in my suitcase.”

“The one thing about me when I travel is that I always love to buy a clothing and I actually got my dress [muumuu] from Portugal,” she explained. “So bringing that piece back to the villa played a huge part. It also reminded me of my travels and the good moments when I was having the bad days.”

Amaya said that for her, the muumuu was more than just a dress.

“It really made me feel grounded. And it let me spread my legs so I can jump on him to kiss him,” she said with a laugh, referring to the makeout session she had with Bryan on the show while wearing the dress.

After the interviewer mentioned that fans appreciated she was comfortable on the show, Bryan hilariously interjected to say, “Wait, is that a comfort thing? I thought she looked good as hell in that.”

The impression she got from fans for wearing the muumuu was something that Amaya was ultimately grateful for.

“I love that message that everybody was able to get and receive from that,” she said. “I remember getting ready that night, and everybody was just like wearing short dresses and everything, but I was like wait, I really just want to be comfortable.”

Amaya ended her message by reminding women that they are “beautiful with that mini dress or with a long dress. It’s way more than about the physical.”
