Man Tests Girlfriend’s NFL Knowledge, Her Hilarious Answers Go Viral (Exclusive)

When Hugh Hogan pulled up NFL team logos on his phone, he knew his girlfriend, Meg Nel, was in for a challenge. A former professional tennis player from South Africa, she can ace a serve at lightning speed — but identifying U.S. football teams? That was another story.

The idea came to Hogan, 25, after he saw a similar quiz trending last season. Since meeting in a chiropractic office two years ago, he and Nel have bonded over their shared love of sports, so turning the quiz into a playful competition felt like a natural fit.

“Because Meg isn’t from the States, I knew she wouldn’t know the teams — which I figured would make for some great content and a lot of laughs,” Hogan, based in Atlanta, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

But the results were even funnier than he expected. Among Nel’s most memorable guesses: the “Washington Waste Management,” the “Tesla Fireballs” for the Titans and the “Pennsylvania Subarus” for the Steelers. She also confidently called four different teams the Buffalo Bills.

“I was trying not to laugh too hard behind the camera,” Hogan says. “Every time she came up with a name, I was half in shock and half thinking, ‘How did she even come up with that?’ It’s fun to anticipate her answers, but her creative mind always comes up with something completely out of pocket — and that’s when I lose it.”

Nel, 28, laughs about it now. “I was honestly just blurting out the first thing that came to mind when I saw the logos,” she admits. “I’m very competitive though, so I was a little upset I only guessed a few correctly!”

After filming, Hogan posted the video to TikTok, where it quickly went viral — racking up more than 3 million views and 1,600 comments.

The clip even caught the attention of the NFL’s Panthers and Chargers, who chimed in, to Nel’s delight. Bills fans also flooded the comments with support after realizing she actually knew their team — and now Nel proudly tells everyone the Bills are “her team.”

“We were blown away,” Hogan says. “It’s always been our goal to create fun content that people can share and laugh at, and this one really took off. Seeing how many people said they were laughing so hard made us feel amazing — it only encourages us to keep making more.”

“I know at least seven [teams] now just because of the video!” Nel adds. “I have even started watching football with Hugh to learn more.”

Looking forward, the couple says they’re excited to focus on creating more content together. They’re even planning to flip the script and have Nel quiz Hogan on South African sports.

“People keep requesting it, so we are already planning the next round,” Hugh adds.
