Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, celebrated her 40th birthday in final public sighting before death
Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, celebrated her 40th birthday in her last public sighting ahead of her tragic death.
The 42-year-old was photographed outside the Grand Master Recorders eatery in Hollywood, Calif., on Oct. 12, 2023.
She sported a knit dress and a “birthday girl” headband for the special outing.
Katherine also appeared to be holding several to-go bags and a separate tote.
In a separate photo, Short, 75, was seen talking on the phone outside the restaurant.
Other attendees included the late Catherine O’Hara, Goldie Hawn, Bo Welch, Joni Mitchell and Julianne Phillips.
The social worker died in an apparent suicide on Monday.
“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” a rep for the Short family told Page Six.
“The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
TMZ reported that Katherine was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her Hollywood Hills, Calif., estate.
The Los Angeles Fire Department told Page Six that they responded to a reported shooting at the address around 6:40 p.m.
Katherine previously revealed on her since-deleted website that she had a service dog to assist with “mental illness.”
In her bio, she shared that she named her dog after singer Joni Mitchell, writing, “Joni is my incredible service dog, who has been assisting me with my own struggles with mental illness for the past 5 years.”
“Joni will often be in the office with me, cuddled up on her bed,” Katherine added. “She is an absolute sweetheart and just LOVES people, so don’t be surprised if she greets you with a smile, a wagging tail…and maybe even a kiss.”
Katherine worked as a social worker in a private practice, specializing in psychotic disorders, anxiety and borderline personality disorder.
Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who died of cancer in 2010, adopted Katherine, along with their sons Oliver Patrick, 39, and Henry Hayter, 36.
